I was going to say that you'd have to be living in a cave in Afghanistan or in the deepest jungle of Asia not to know who Messi is (and Ronaldo), but actually that wouldn't be true. It concerns me that in an age where information has never been more readily available that people are seemingly ever less informed. Do you think that in the 60's you would have got a group of people saying they'd never heard of George Best?

Do you think that in the 60's you would have got a group of people saying they'd never heard of George Best? My choice. I don't see why its important to know benale stuff about something that doesn't interest me. My general knowledge other than sport is decent. The only thing I know about George Best is that he was an alcoholic. I know nothing of his football career and don't have any desire to learn as it simply doesn't interest me in the slightest. |

There was a violent and sudden thunder storm over us on Friday morning. A friend of ours horse was out in it's field with another horse at the yard where she keeps it locally. The other horse was hit by lightning and killed. Her horse dropped dead from a heart attack.

I was in Norway a few years ago and on the news they reported that over 320 reindeer had been killed on a hillside nearby. They huddled together and one lightning strike took them all out. |

Christ, that's awful.
I've had a great weekend away, but came home and went to light the fire and noticed the ash pan was damp. The boiler in the stove has started weeping. As it's a home made affair, I suspect I need a new boiler stove and hot water cylinder with a new header tank. Mucho £££. I would rather that than a flooded house though, it has to be said.

Last year I had an Asda extra special Christmas pud, use by date of 2012. It was heavily invested with hic and well stored. Or I would have found it sooner. Yum.

I saw a programme a few weeks ago where some bunch of food scientists have a christmas pudding that's about 50 years old and its been stored in fairly normal conditions but is still perfectly edible. |
