Yeah there is still an element of resentment towards the 'white settlers'. Mrs Chocy left for uni and never moved back, that small town mentally wasn't for her. Why does your friend stay there? He's English but his other half is Scottish. They probably have the nicest house in the town and can't sell it because no one wants to spend half a million quid on a house in Huntly! We went up there a few years back for a 50th birthday bash and some of the English accented people met with prejudice. One went in a hairdressers to have her hair trimmed and was told they weren't cutting hair that day. They were also hounded out of a pub where the locals didn't fancy welcoming them in and started talking very loudly about the lah de dah English bastards in the bar. I never saw any of this but was told all about it at the party. Regrettably, I'm not surprised to hear that. I doubt it's of much comfort, but I get treated like shite by a minority of people there. I think I only get a pass due to my connections. Much better to stick to a lovely cosmopolitan city like..... Edinburgh.. Or Glasgow.

I've been invited to another 50th in Cambuslang. Am I going to find myself with a glass sticking out of my face at some point?! Also, on a totally unrelated note, I'm just wondering why I have a Chromecast plugged into a smart TV? Nah, you should be OK there. If it's of any interest, there's a kart track there for you to have a go at if you get time too.

Just been on Croyde beach in 60 mph winds. Amazing experience but not sure the dog liked it as much as I did!

Was at Andy Murray's hotel near Dunblane yesterday for my birthday lunch; Chez Roux at Cromlix House.
It's out past Kinbuck, off the A9, and feels very Olde Worlde but with a modern twist. The food was delicious, as one might expect of a restaurant fronted by Albert Roux, the one exception being the base of Herself's lemon tart was quite firm - a bit disappointing from a chef famed for his pastry!
Anyway, it's on a lovely twisty, country road which I plan to explore in more depth later in the year. Just a pity I'll be doing it in a dieseasel Octavia .. .. ..

I think you're confusing him with Albert Choux! Could be!! Forgot to add the other point of that post, which was that Nicholas Parsons is still alive! We had Radio4 on, planning to listen to David Mitchell's Sunday lunchtime quiz show, finding Parsons presenting (still) Just a Minute instead. I actually thought he'd died years ago . . . still going strong at 95!

I was at a wedding at Cromlix House shortly before Andy Murray bought the place. It was a very pleasant experience although from what I have been told, things are a bit more expensive now. There are some very good roads in that part of the world.

There are some very good roads in that part of the world. I didn't think the prices were all that bad actually; certainly the a la carte items were on a par, or even a bit less, than similar such at, say, Gleneagles. Naturally, I didn't see the total cost (it was part of my birthday, after all) but I'd quite happily go back again.

Since towards the end of her 6th Form at college, I've thought that my younger daughter was a bit of a superstar (personality-wise) and yesterday I found out it was true! She's currently staying at home with s for 3 days as she is on a first-aid refresher course for the nursery where she works, and the course happens to be fairly close to where we live. Yesterday at dinner we were talking about epi-pens and I asked her if she'd even use one "in anger". She replied "didn't I tell you what happened last November?" Nope, she hadn't. .......... during her lunch break one day, a child in another area had an allergic reaction to something. Whilst the child's immediate supervisors etc all wondered what to do etc, and whilst the child was becoming increasingly "unwell" and distressed, daughter calmly administered citrazine (?) fist, then queried with the relevant member of staff if this child had an epi-pen, which she did. Whilst discussions continues with some staff freaking out, daughter observed that child was getting worse so remaining calm, and against the advice of some other senior members of staff, administered the epi=pen. I was amazed when she said that within 2 minutes, the child was back to normal. By this time one parent and paramedics had arrived, she accompanied child to hospital in the ambulance but was able to return to work shortly afterwards. Child remained at hospital for observation for a few hours and was then released.
So, daughter really is a life-safer. Gave me a warm glow inside when she told me the above.

Well done to her, highlights an appalling failure of 'other' staff who are supposed to be trained. Worthy of something, perhaps success like this could go on a permanent record somewhere.

She performed superbly under pressure. The response of her colleagues would have me removing my child from that nursery immediately. What if it was your daughter's day off?

Well done your daughter. It seems the more senior members were frozen by a culture of do nothing in case you do something wrong.

Well done Chris' daughter.
I've got my 3 yearly first aid renewal next month. I hope I never have to use it.

It's amazing how a few simple methods can be so useful for the hopefully few occasions needed.

Well done indeed.
Could have done with her at work today actually, when our cleaner managed to let a box of paper towels slide down the front of her leg, removing about 6 inches of skin! Nasty, especially given she's nearly 70 and on a bunch of tablets, including Aspirin - it didn't stop bleeding for about half an hour apparently!

Kuga was in for a service today, loan car was another Fiesta Active, this time an auto. Reg plate RF68 XEY
Drove it to the local village as I had an eye test there this morning. As I was driving away afterwards, into the side road I was emerging from turned RF68 XEZ

The voice on the satnav on our 3 series is disturbingly close to sounding like Theresa MAy when she's talking conversationally (as opposed to when she's under pressure and her voice cracks or when she's refusing to compromise and is being forceful).

Victoria station got rid of their charges a year or so ago. Probably because Wetherspoons were fed up of everyone using theirs!
