It has been -2 all day. The forecast is looking fairly severe for tonight and tomorrow morning. I have three big round bales to collect from a farmer a few miles away which will be interesting.

On the way back from the hospital after seeing mum, driving daughter's A1 whilst she enjoyed (?) a Costa hot choccy drink, we caught and passed the A1 she originally drove down to see at Camberley Audi - the one they sold whilst she was en route to them earlier in the year......

I presume you both got a warm glow of satisfaction, knowing that the car she got will be better than that one anyway?

I have no control over the lock screen picture on my work pc and it changes every morning at about 10 a.m. Today's amused me simply for the fact that, at least on the monitor itself, I can clearly see some polished sections of the roadway of this bridge where someone has clearly 'lit up' the driven wheels of their car.

Tissues ready, I wonder what you will be looking at next, on your PC!!

Ha! That's a hangover from my man-flu combined with the fact the person who sits nearest me is going through a separation (their own fault) and periodically bursts into tears

For my birthday, Tina bought me a SONOS One; I love listening to music in the kitchen when cooking, however it means pumping it through the sound bar in the lounge, via the telly so it can get a bit loud, or playing it through my phone.
What a fantastic bit of kit, superb sound from something so small, plus it has Alexa built in so all I have to do is tell it to play what I want played and it does it, the voice recognition is faultless.
Bonus is, Tina actually ordered me a Play 1; it's the same sound but no Alexa and it's cheaper, they sent a One but billed a Play 1; bonus!

I may have agreed to be nominated for our local Regional Organiser position in the car club. Looks like the TVR will have to stay!

You know how every pub has a bunch of older gentlemen who meet every week, on the same day at the same time? Well, I've been invited to join one of said groups. I am now officially an old git!

I can do the one where you stand them up in a row and then knock them over.

Lindsay has just told me she turned down the offer of a new Boxster for the weekend. She told the salesman she would like to stay with Porsche, but a 4 cylinder Boxster doesn’t really appeal. The offer is still open, maybe I should get it upgraded to a new Panamera?! Probably a bad idea.....

Maybe the offer was made on the basis that so many people are turning their noses up at a 4-cyl Boxster and the only way that is left to try to get a sale is a free loan to see if the potential customer's mind can be changed by real-world experience? I wonder if I'd qualify for a week-end loan of one ??

More likely to be because she was in for the Boxsters MOT and we will have had it for 4 years next week.

Understand not liking the idea of a 4 cylinder Boxster but she still should have taken it for curiosity’s sake if nothing else. Maybe they’d let her try a 911 with a 6 cylinder turbo. Worth asking as apparently they’re struggling to sell too.

I occasionally hear a 4 pot Cayman in the stop-start traffic heading towards the Tay Bridge from the Dundee side and I have to say it sounds a bit odd.

According to my trade insider, things are much worse in new car sales than the figures published would suggest. It is a blood bath out there I am told.
Some big dealers are approaching manufacturers/importers with offers to take loads of cars off their hands at massive discounts - these will then be pre regd and shoved out at prices the internet discounters can't get close to. The dealers are suffering on two fronts because a lack of new car sales means a lack of nice 2 to 3 year old trade ins which hurts them on used car sales too.
Opportunities might be available Martin although I doubt Porsche would need to pre register anything - they might sharpen their pencil a bit though. My guy says the 6 cylinder Cayman/Boxster is also firming up in price considerably.

^ Yes but how do you know if the "cost price" they state is true? My local Ford dealer offers similar cost-price events from time to time, but this does not appear to take into account bonuses offered by the manufacturer for meeting or exceeding sales targets, making the "cost price" figure irrelevant

I've just been looking at nearly new 330/335d xDrive estates again and there are a some at dealers for around £36k, even the Shadowline ones that have a whiff of Halfords about their 20 inch alloys and suspect rear spoilers. I think they're near £10k below list with a couple of thousand miles on the clock.

Yes, 6 cylinder prices are holding up very nicely, ours has only lost about 30-35% of what we paid for it 4 years ago (£10-11k more than the GFV we’ve just paid off) and a Porsche dealer would sell it for no more than 20% less than they did back then. So I do like the 718 quite a lot!

Fortunately the link doesn’t work! Lindsay really needs a 5 door to comply with her car allowance conditions, she hasn’t been able to use the Boxster for any business miles since July. It’s generally worked out OK and given me even more time in it, but it’s far from ideal. If we got another Boxster, it would have to have a similar spec plus memory seats and adaptive suspension.

A friend in the village brought his gf’s car up for me to plug into my code reader. It’s a Mitsubishi Outlander of 2008 vintage.
Anyway, it was showing turbo overboost fault code. After a quick google, it turns out this engine is the 2.0 litre VAG unit as fitted to loads of VWs and Audis and the fault is common - usually just a sensor. I have to say, I didn’t see that coming at all. He is giving it to the garage to do because you couldn’t even see the turbo - it’s at the back right next to the bulkhead!

Mitsubishi used the 2ltr VAG diesel in a few cars back then as I think the Grandis had it too (my brother briefly worked at a Mitsubishi dealer).
