A friend in the village brought his gf’s car up for me to plug into my code reader. It’s a Mitsubishi Outlander of 2008 vintage. Anyway, it was showing turbo overboost fault code. After a quick google, it turns out this engine is the 2.0 litre VAG unit as fitted to loads of VWs and Audis and the fault is common - usually just a sensor. I have to say, I didn’t see that coming at all. He is giving it to the garage to do because you couldn’t even see the turbo - it’s at the back right next to the bulkhead! Mitsubishi used the 2ltr VAG diesel in a few cars back then as I think the Grandis had it too (my brother briefly worked at a Mitsubishi dealer). Renault Nissan are now the largest car manufacturer by volume now that they have purchased a controlling share of Mitsubishi.

Should anyone want 5 litres of V8 the Mustang is now available with 0% on a pcp. Makes a big difference.

Had my first encounter with voodoo headlights the other day. Not as a driver or passenger in a car with them fitted, but as a driver approaching one coming the other way. The only way I can describe it was seeing a wall of daylight moving towards me without actually dazzling me. Freaky stuff. It may have been a Velar.

I'm not sure how I'd know if I was approaching voodoo headlights but there have been an increasing number of instances of cars coming the other way and their lights are just too bright to be comfortable.

I had cause to experience a current shape X5 yesterday and I now understand why they often park across two spaces - the rear doors are absolutely huge. I'd never noticed (why would I?) but they seem to be longer than those on the fronts and need a lot of space to open for access. I'd guess this is to help get in the third row; MPVs had sliding doors for a good reason.

So, after 3 weeks of not being able to drive and get about, yesterday I managed to drive into town, park, and go get a haircut. A mix up with the lease car changeover had left me with a manual 3 series and with my left hip I couldn't operate the clutch, but Monday they delivered a 420d M-Sport Grand Coupe auto and all is good. Freedom again!
The 420d Grand Coupe is a nice car, although most casual observers seem to think it's just a normal 3 series. In fact no-one has noticed yet. I like the hatchback though, decent amount of room back there - a good compromise if you need more flexibility than a saloon but don't want a Touring. It's fridge white and as soon as I have cleared some space in my dropbox I'll post some pics.

I'm watching some of the two-man bob whilst I work. I've just noticed that the crowd nearest the finish line is looking away from the action and towards the camera, waving away like selfie-obsessed teenagers. Fuckwits.

Don't ask me why but yesterday morning I wondered if Neil Sedaka was still alive so googled him, and spend about 10 or 15 minutes reading this..... quite fascinating: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Sedaka

Saw a guy at the gym this morning who, and I’m not joking here, had a pistol tattooed on each bicep. Wasn’t even that big either, what a knob.

I haven't bothered with a photo but buzzards are quite sturdy birds aren't they? Now I need a new front grille. Buzzard 1, BMW 0.

No, the bird flew away. I have the bits it broke off the car though, they were behind the bumper! I suppose I could glue them back in place.

Had an estate triple test last week, current model E220d estate vs latest 520i estate vs V70 estate. The BMW and Mercedes were very similar to ride in.... ride comfort, road/wind noise etc were all very similar. The 520i needed a bit more revs/throttle to get going, but the engine was very quiet and smooth even in the upper reaches of the Rev range. The Mercedes feels a bit more ‘blingy’ inside, the BMW is more restrained but quality feels very similar, the BMW has the better seats.
The V70 really didn’t compare well in any way and I’m not sure how I managed to get the only one, every other car in the line was a 520i.
No pictures I’m afraid. The Mercedes and Volvo were black on black and the BMW was ‘proper racing spec’ (black paint with with brown seats), assume it had a Cognac interior, which is not a colour I’d choose.

The V70 is getting quite ancient now. Not sure if it will be replaced, given V60 and V90 probably do the same job in 2 different sizes.

The new V60 seems to have grown quite a bit, and I'd be surprised if the current V70 survives much longer. The V90 makes a worthwhile step-up in size over the new V60

That’s terrible. I’ve passed there hundreds of times and in the summer the car park is sea of motorbikes. Right at the start of Spring as well.
