I think SRB can afford renovations, probably without applying for a hardship grant.

I cleaned the steering wheel in the BMW he other week and it looked like it was starting to wear around the 2 o'clock position. I mentioned it when it wa in for service , so they cleaned it and told me it was dirt which came off on cloth. Looking at it afterwards, it looked worse, so the service manager took pictures to send off to BMW but said at nearly 80k miles it's likely they would say it general wear that was down to the driver.
Missed a call from them today, they were calling me to book the car in for a new steering wheel. First issue, but dealt with really well and it will be like having a new car (kind of...) so I'm happy.

Some AH has scraped the rear of younger daughter's Audi this week when she was doing her shop in her local Tesco's. Lots of white paint left on the bumper which came off when I rubbed it with a damp cloth but there are also some scratches through the paint :-(
... and the usual, no CCTV in that part of the car park

I'm not far away from putting it on, it was pretty cold when I got up this morning. It was 8.5c outside, but it's only 6c at Birmingham airport (plus fog). I had my heated seats on for the first time in months, lovely.

I turned our heating on when we got back from the USA on Sept 10th.... it's not come on very much since (I have a programmable thermostat) but the heating is at least set to "on".... usually I can get through almost until the clocks go back before this happens, but the rain seems to make the temperature feel colder than it really is. At least the warm radiators helped with drying some of the holiday washing last week...
I cut the lawn on Sunday and it almost looks like it needs cutting again this morning when I left for work, although it's far too wet to do that

Ours is on a programmable thermostat so is on standby all the time. Living 900 feet above sea level means the weather can come in cold even in the height of summer. The fire was on overnight last night for the first time since the end of the winter.

One of the many random uses for a Land Rover - pitching my tent to it in an attempt to dry it out after a soggy weekend at the LRO International show at Peterborough.

I recall a sailing holiday in Greece (we had two yachts, one skippered by me, one by my brother and crewed by friends and acquaintances) where we anchored in a bay full of yachts, a large proportion of which were from the RYA. There was a large BBQ on the beach that night and it became evident that since we hadn't gone to Oxford or Cambridge, didn't live in London and didn't own a large yacht on the Solent, that we were the equivalent of something you scraped off your shoe.
Once everyone had retired to bed, we set out to gather a large proportion of the rubber dinghies tied up behind the RYA yachts, tie them all together and the towed them (with me rowing silently) to another totally unconnected yacht where we tied them on. We left enough random dinghies attached to leave the culprits as one of several.
It was rather amusing to sit in the cockpit the next morning having breakfast and hearing marble loaded voices around the anchorage shouting obscenities and finally having to go for a longish swim. We did give one elderly gentleman a lift to pick up his dinghy and surprisingly he thought it was rather a good wheeze - he hadn't heard a thing!

There is an article on the BBC website today: www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41320615
In it various people have boycotted companies after being offended by them or having had bad service. I have done similar things in the past such as boycotting Ryanair after they bumped me off a flight (actually didn't let me on) because it was full i.e. overbooked!
However when someone takes offence at a cashier in Tesco calling her Darling or Babe or similar, I think we have crossed a line. Madam I am offended by the fact that you think the cashier did anything wrong! I quite enjoy being called "Love" or "Darling" at the checkout: it is normally the precursor to a bit of enjoyable banter.

Apparently one of the worst things you can do these days, far worse than rape or parking in a parent and child spot is to presume an individuals gender.

I read that earlier and was bemused by the first example - someone phoned up to complain that their train in 3 weeks time had been cancelled due to engineering works and now they're boycotting that train company. Sounds like a professional offence-taker (as well as an arsehole) to me.

When I cancelled my insurance renewal the really chatty and happy sounding woman on the other end of the phone referred to me as either "hun", "my lovely" or "love", I really liked it as it brought a sense of normality and ease to the whole experience.

We discussed the BBC article in the office and one of the girls said that her children's school had received a request from a Jehovah's Witness to call the Easter holiday the Spring Break and to call Christmas the Winter Break - that started a 10 minute tirade by one of our staff who is as un PC as it is possible to be. Can't disagree with his logic in most things and he keeps us seriously amused.

Only a matter of time before such crap makes it over here - does he really want to accelerate that process?

Only a matter of time before such crap makes it over here - does he really want to accelerate that process? I hope they were told to fuck right off. Why should we keep making changes to appease minorities? I'm perfectly tolerant of all races and religions but I do think tolerance works both ways. Most non-Christian's in this country whether they be Jewish, Muslim etc, take no offence at our traditional Easter and Christmas festivals, and so they shouldn't in the same way that we have no right to be upset with them celebrating their own religious festivals. The JW in that case should be teaching their children what these festivals mean to everyone else not ask for them to be renamed to hide them from it. I also agree that people do take offense to easily in some cases such as those in the article. I just don't see how being called 'love' by a checkout girl has to have a negative effect on ones life. I personally find it makes them seem more friendly and that we've had an enjoyable interaction, however small a level it was on.

Agreed, the Birmingham experiment of winterval (Christmas) was considered pathetic across the board and as far as I know discontinued. As far as the checkout thing goes, it must be really thrilling, not, working on a till and a little banter can be an improvement on a surly disinterested individual.
