I still can't think of them as a 718. Anyway, specs are.... 4 litre flat 6, 414hp, 8,000rpm and a manual gearbox. Reasonable starting price as well, £73,405 for the Spyder and £75,348 for the GT4. If I could justify a 3rd car, which I can't right now, then I'd already have my name down for a Spyder. edit: They're on the configurator already. Evo Link

Still a fair few options to be added, £87k for 'my' Spyder.

Ooh. I like that Spyder. GT Silver for me please, with the Classic red/black interior option (and red soft-top), bucket seats and bi-xenon (not LED) lights. Came to £81k or so.

Can normal people buy one ? Or are they all sold out, but soon to be appearing at your local OPC with a 50% mark up ?

I think they are aiming to make more, and keep it in production for longer.
Still might be reasonably hard to get a new one though. Last time they made just under 600 GT4s for UK (incl Northern Ireland) and just under 300 Spyders IIRC. This time people reckon 500-800 GT4s and 300-500 Spyders for the UK, but it's conjecture on PH.
I would say yes to a new GT4 if I get the call, and I will influence my local dealership as best I can without spending any actual money. I think it's incrementally better than my own car, admittedly at a price. But if I don't get the call I'm still a big fan of what I have.

I'm struggling to find any differences between the Cayman version and its predecessor...

It'll be interesting to see what they can do with the noise as the engines based on the turbo unit and not the one out of the GT3. My Gt4 sounds awesome once its into its stride so it will need to replicate that.

Love the spyder, looks brilliant and if they had put a detuned gt3 engine in I would buy one.

Well dan and myself got a gt4 when they came out last time, I had never bought from porsche before and I think Dan just had the cayman so there is a lot of mythology around the buying of gt products. There is also going to be a fair few more of them judging by the comments.

I have a friend who has the previous Boxster Spyder, who has already put his name down. He is quietly confident that he will get one. I think that basing the engine on the turbo unit won't hamper it in any way - it probably just gives them a slightly more modern unit to work with and no doubt, helps with economies of scale instead of using the old GT3 engine which may now be off the production line.

I emailed my OPC my draft spec last night and indicated that I was very much still interested. Here's the reply I received from the Dealer Principal this morning:
Thank you for your continued interest in the recently announced 718 GT4, figures look particularly exciting!
Unfortunately I am not in a position to commit at this stage regarding a guaranteed supply due to the minimal expected volumes this year and next, as we are yet to receive any indication on quota for 2020.
With your current ownership taken into account we of course will try our best to fulfil this if possible.
Well it's not a yes, but it's not a no either...

It also very much implies that previous customers get preference.

I suspect only if they sell back an existing GT Porsche to the dealership as part of the deal - unless you are someone who buys multiple new Porsches as a matter of routine!

If only I was worthy enough. And had 87k spare!
I look forward to seeing the Forum's first 718 GT4 one day.

This stat really stands out. Bloody hell.
"All in all, Porsche claims the latest Cayman GT4 is more than ten seconds quicker around the Nordschleife than its predecessor. That puts it in the low 7min 30sec range – similar to times set in a Porsche Carrera GT back in its day..."

Quite some stat but not all thanks to Porsche. Some tyre tech in that
(Nerd mode) Question is how much quicker are the Cup2 N1 Tyres on the 718 GT4 over the Cup 2 N0 tyres on the 981 GT4.

Hopefully the Cup2 N1 are a bit better in the wet and/or the cold, so I don't keep getting passed by Golfs and Meganes on a cold damp Silverstone trackday

Saw this yesterday- is there a previous Spyder iteration of the 718 or is this the new one? I had assumed it was the new one but the wheels now don’t look right.

That's a 981 Spyder. I don't think you'll see the new one on the roads for a few months.

And it looks cleaner and neater than the new one IMO. Same goes for the GT4, I think the 981 design is purer and less fussy. Particularly the wheels, but also the rear lights, exhausts and diffuser.

GT4 RS is interesting. Hopefully it will be PDK only, which means that I won't want one, and the demand from people who do want one will mean that they don't want a 718 GT4, so I will get one of those!
