I had the pleasure of this beauty today: A very pleasant car as it happens. Impressive handling for one so large and a decent turn of speed when it’s pressed into action. Very good ride especially given it wore 22” wheels. I’d need to spend more than an afternoon with it to get fully used to its functions but I think I could get used to it.

Getting the puncture sorted or something else?
LR have put that engine in the 2019 Discovery, makes sense as the old V6 was pretty close to the 4 cylinder.

One of our suppliers has one in full Wilmslow spec - white with black roof, massive black wheels and black leather. I found it pleasant enough to drive and be sat in, but I felt I was missing a Tango tan, massive nail extensions and a rose gold iPhone.
I do like the pop out side steps though.

Bloody hell, what sort of people knock on your door? For is it's just the milkman collecting his money.

Never really had much love for Rangies in the past but recently I keep searching them on AT. I must be getting old

Pleased to hear it’s not just me, but only in Silver/Grey/Green with clear glass and silver wheels. I had a drive in a both a Sport and Proper RR back in April, really impressive how well they drive on the road, but there is still a compromise due to their off road capability (which I don’t need). The other problem is when you start with the Sport then try the proper one, which is much nicer in every way (imo), the budget needs to increase. The potential unreliability put me off as well, I’m used to fault/niggle/rattle free motoring and don’t have the time or patience to deal with ‘character’.
I didn’t even try a Velar, it’s too small inside, less space for people than you get in a Golf.

They’re like anything when it comes to specifications, you can build them to your taste or something else. They do drive very well but for me the compromise would be reduced practically and an inferior driving position I’d get from a conventional estate/ saloon. I do prefer to sit high and the cabin is nicely done. The wonderful thing of the car market is you can get what you like. The full fat Range Rover is a nice car but I don’t think I’d feel short changed with a Sport.

Maybe it's a comment on what I use my car for, but I wouldn't be without it on my car for reasons of heat comfort for the dogs and/or hiding some expensive model aircraft from casual prying eyes. Plus, for both the Legacy and the Octavia, I like how it looks! Each to their own I suppose.

I think the steps are over £3k now. I’m with you on the tinted glass. To me it tidies up the graphic of the glazed area (DLO in designer speak) and with dogs, less so expensive stuff, I appreciate the privacy.

I can agree they are naff in the wrong spec. But to me they're very cool in the right spec. It is just shame that some people have no taste and specify some awful specs (like white with black roof and black wheels that seems stupidly popular - whoever made that colour combo popular needs boiling).

I don’t hate sun protection glass, I specced it on the 535d because it was cheaper than not having it and it’s fitted to the 750. It does work really well, but my preference would be for clear glass and electric blinds. The problem with the dark rear glass on the RR (as an example) is the contrast is too great against the front windows, it’s much more of of a privacy glass than it Is on mine. Mind you, that’s still much better than awful suckered on blinds a lot of people get when they have kids!
The steps are a dealer fit accessory aren’t they? I like the idea as you get the benefits but with a clean look, but the only ones I’ve experience weren’t exactly smooth when operating.

Some people have tinted glass so dark I am surprised they can drive at all but for reducing need for aircon and keeping kids/dogs cool, why not. One summer my father borrowed his shops butcher mod transit. Stuck a matress on the floor and chucked us in. What with all the seams and the floor 'glassed up it was like being in an oven.

So, what was the reason for the loan car and is the car behind it a MINI GP2?

I think tinted rear glass a necessity on estates as I’m too lazy to pull the load cover over and as boxer says, stops those unwanted persons swing what’s inside. Only problem is dark glass and the fashion for shit reverse lights mean you can see fuck all when you reverse.

Well count me as a luddite, but I really don't like privacy glass. It makes anything look like a van. Have all you fans ever tried to be a passenger in the back of a privacy glassed car for a long journey? It's like being in your own personal tomb.
On the occasions when I look at full fat or Sport RR's on Autotrader, if you exclude all those with privacy glass at the rear, then you're down to quite a limited choice.

It does depend on tint level. Sometimes the degree of tint is pushed beyond sensibility but while it is not my thing, I understand tint for windows in general terms.

White is nasty but personally it's black Range Rovers (and the ilk) that I don't get.
Do people actively want to look like the bad guys from a recent Bond film?
Obviously Range Rovers have always been expensive cars for rich people, but what once looked patrician now looks arriviste. They just have flashy ostentatious designs. No amount of dark green paint or silver wheels can disguise that.

Yes, because there's nothing worse than "new money". People should know their place in society.
