I’ve never had anything remotely competitive by way of a quote from Direct Line……. Me neither, which is why I was so surprised.

Direct Line were the best option for the 535d all the time I had it, but were significantly more expensive for the 7 and I have looked since, but they continued to be more expensive and wouldn’t even quote for my current car.

In my whole car ownership life I think I've been insured by Direct Line for a total of 1 year, they're usually seriously expensive. Renewal is in a couple of months, I'll look forward to that to see if they have changed

Perhaps they like a PHEV.

I understand the post 2018 cars are more secure, but I they will still be a fairly high risk. I was pleasantly surprised that my insurance was 'only' £680 this year and they didn't insist on a Tracker either, but it does have one. The 750 was £1060 in the first year / £850 in the second and the last year with the 535d was £800. The Golf is £580, up from £530 the year before and it's always been more expensive than the Boxster (£400-450).

Just had our multicar renewal quote through from Admiral. For the first time ever, it's basically the same as last year (£2 more expensive to be precise).
I did fire up the meerkats but it looks like that's pretty competitive all things considered - there was nothing cheaper from an insurance company I'd actually heard of before.

I had mine recently, surprisingly quick with the quote and agreeing value to the point of amazement.

Well, as I needed to ring Admiral anyway to see how much it would cost to insure a Macan Turbo (answer about £600), so once we'd dealt with that, I had a haggle with them anyway on the renewal quote for the existing two cars.
Got £85 off which wasn't bad for a phone call - £20 off the Fiat, putting it at c.£160, and £65 off the BMW, putting it at c.£470. Given both are insured for commuting/occasional business use and not just SDP, that doesn't seem bad for central London.

We had a battle getting insurance after not being in Ireland for 8 years, and eventually Mrs. R got herself insured fully comp for a decent rate. I arrived on Friday and she went to put me on the insurance. I was expecting the same hassle. However, they took my licence, and insured me. Giving a discount on the policy so we are now paying less than we originally did. I can start looking for a car soon but don’t need to right now. Glad to see something sensible happen with an insurance company for a change.

When Adrians Flux agreed my cars value and came up with a competitive quote within a week I nearly fell off my chair.
I wonder if someone put an additive in the tea at the office.

LV gave a renewal figure to my broker of £751 which is nearly a 70% increase. However after a bit of communication I am insured for another year at £444! That's less than half what it costs for the i-Pace.

Just renewed mine for 17th April. FLux sent me my renewal through at £306. I did a comparison on meerkat, and had an insanely cheap price of £190 from a company called Darwin (part of Churchill) . I spoke to Lancaster as I wanted a specialist broker, and I'm now on a classic policy, with an agreed valuation for £217. I didn't mind paying the extra for that. Happy with that.
I was with Flux for years, but I'm fed up of getting a piss take renewal through, and then having to phone them to get a big chunk off.

Flux are a bunch of charlatans. They love moving goalposts and adding onerous terms at renewal.
The Mazda is with LV and hasnt moved from £200 a year for years.
The Disco is with Admiral because they are cheap and I don't care about the quality of the comprehensive side of the cover in any way.
The truck is with Direct Line who remained competitive this renewal.
It went up, but quotes I was getting elsewhere were substantially more.
This reminds me that I need to organise my Green Card for France

I still don't get what the catch is (or isn't?) with the Porsche. I renewed it recently and while it's on limited mileage (5k a year I think) - hardly an issue post lockdown with 2 cars - I added business mileage, and Tina is still on it. It was £270 a year including breakdown. Surely old Boxsters are crashed like normal cars, and must cost a fortune to repair?

I did a couple of searches on different cars through Go Compare and the prices came back a lot higher than I excepted. It's not due until May, but out of interest I ran my cars details through again.....best price was £1,250. It was £550 in May 2022!! Looking a couple of posts up at what John paid for his M5 just over a year ago, I was quoted £1750 with a black box or £2050+ without for a new M5 Competition. A used Panamera Turbo S with a higher purchase price was half that cost interestingly. Must be because it was the eco version of the Turbo....

My insurance renewed just over a month ago and it was up to £542. My broker tells me that there is quite a bit of upward pressure on premiums but their relationship with the insurer and my long term loyalty got a much better deal than was available elsewhere. The next nearest quote was just under £1,000!

Mine just renewed and the premium was the same as last year despite there being one car less (this was prior to the Kia being bought).
I shopped around but the price on the 4 Series in particular seems to have jumped up.
I wonder if more modern things with hard to get chips are being penalised at present?

Mine is due next month and the renewal quote was 20% cheaper than last year. Protected policy, business mileage, the lot. Still need to pay it now that I think of it…

I read the small print on my policy and discovered my insurance doesn’t include a protected bonus, so I added it in along with contents and personal injury. The updated policy is €2 cheaper!

That's really odd.
I've managed to get the truck sorted for £450 with LV down from £525 with the existing insurers Direct Line. They didn't even attempt to retain me when I requested the cancellation of the renewal.

My daughter's Mini was insured with Admiral and renewed in the first week of December. About a month before, I phoned them to ask what the renewal premium would be - they said they couldn't tell me but a renewal would be sent out 3 weeks prior to renewal. The same thing happened the year before and by the time we got the renewal amount we couldn't get any decent quotes elsewhere so had to renew at what appeared to be a high level (from memory it was c£850, down from just under £1,000 in the first year). Instead of waiting for Admiral I did some searching and got a renewal at £529 which we just took. Admiral's quote came out a week later at low £700's but when I phoned to cancel they said they would match the premium we had been quoted. I told them it was too late and they should get their renewals out earlier. I then checked online with the company we had renewed with and the premium was now over £100 more expensive - Martin Lewis is right when he says the cheapest time to renew is about 4 weeks prior to renewal date and insurance company's probably use this to their advantage by being slow sending out renewals.

Interestingly both the meerkats and the confused folk came back with identical 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in terms of overall differential costs, but the number 1 option was £14 cheaper with Confused. (Yoga, if anyone's interested). Never heard of them, so will probably go with LV, who are another £18 over that.

I updated my policy with the new terms to come into use on my renewal date.
Today I received my documents stating my policy was updated and is now valid from 18/2/23 until 18/2/23.
Fantastic.

Just renewed the Mini. About £50 less than last year with John Lewis. Not worth the time and stress to search elsewhere.
When I did Eva in the autumn I went with Aviva who insure our house and my life. Several hundred less (as a customer with other insurances) than most others and included business use.

Porsche renewal is due. Hastings wanted 344 vs 246 last year - and this time includes 2 years NCD, last year was one (on that car). I know insurance is up, but this seems a hell of a hike especially given they are now supposed to offer the same renewal rates as to new customers! Seems I can't save much more than £30 either by shopping around. They said the "over 50's" were going to get big hikes this year, I'm not quite there but they were not wrong...
