It's amazing how massive those 18 inch wheels look. I always liked the flatnose 911 but the aero add-ons at the back above the wheelarch are pretty awful

Ever since I saw a flat nose 911 at a car show as a teenager it has been on my want list.

At the top end of the range, Fords are remarkably well equipped. My Sister in Law's Kuga has electric sunroof, seats, tailgate, full connectivity, heated windscreen etc etc. £ for £ it is massively better specced that the German alternatives we looked at.

I think my Focus ST is a brilliant car. Far nicer to drive as a daily then my old Golf Mk6 as it has that magic ride and handling compromise that only Ford and McLaren seem to perfect. Not as the latest crop of hot hatches but probably the better for it. Are they 19"s? I'd probably go for a car with 18 in wheels even though those in the link look lovely.

These are great, but definitely go for the 18s. I'd consider the Fiesta as well. Mine was a joy to own - brilliant in all the ways you'd expect but also a practical and comfortable muncher of miles.

They are good value, but once you get to £20k you're very close to a (facelift) 2018 Golf R.

Thanks everyone. Mrs Tim has insisted that if (a fairly big if at the moment) we replace the 320 early next year then it needs to be petrol powered. A petrol 320 leaves me feeling nothing and 340s are more than we want to spend. I haven't drawn her attention to it being an ST so she might object to that although electric seats might change her mind.
Our local Ford dealer appears to have a couple of STs in (one of them with the Mountune kit) so we might arrange to go down one lunchtime.
I did mention the Golf R but got a negative reaction.

Sounds like the whip is coming out but, who for? It's a joke, honestly...

I did mention the Golf R but got a negative reaction. I can understand why, along with the Audi S3, it does seem to be very popular amongst the angry, tracksuited youth

It would rule too many cars out! Tim - I don't think the electric seats have memory, if that's why Mrs Tim would like them.

Martin, I hadn't thought of that. I suppose I just assume they all have memory. Oh well, we'll see how things go. I might have a look at WBAC to get an idea of what they could offer for the BM

That isn't an attractive car at all, but to be fair I don't particularly like the Golf R estate either.

For some reason that does it for me, just like Bess does but the modern face lifted things are just so prostituye.

What a shame it's white. The purple or blue metallic versions are so much nicer.

The 320i might not be as boring as you think now it’s a turbocharged lump. Something like 7 sec 0-60 as standard and, if you choose, easily responds to a remap to take the power to 328i levels as the engines are very similar (no idea what the initial cost/spec differences are between a 320i and 328 but could the latter be an option?)

That's nice but I reckon she'd want a blue light on top of a red car! What's the extra sensor thing ahead of the front wheel?
