I’ve got a friend who restored a 2002 Tii replica. He says this one comes up for sale quite often, it’s mean to be a bit ropey in person. It looks plenty ropey in the pictures.

One of my colleagues has one of those as his station car. Only it's the fullest-fat AMG CL65 version. No, not your average common-or-garden CL63, but the full monty V12 version.
He loves it.

Now you're talking - these can be money pits with air suspension failures being up there for serious wallet raping. A used car client bought one of these at auction and then lost about £750 when he put it back in another auction after being told it would need £4K to fix the suspension. However at that money it could be a very comfortable cruiser and a decent independent could keep it happily purring for years to come.

With air suspension it is a case of when, rather than if, but still well worth it IMO.
The car in the post is wonderful and needs to be bought.

Agree with the positive views on the CL, but would have to be the CL63 and not have the beige dashboard and wood on the steering wheel....or be black. But it does look like a well cared for example.

I’d completely forgotten that shape CL existed. As others have said it’s a lot of car for the money.

I only linked that one as it's a good example but beige leather isn't my ideal. Fortunately there are plenty out there with black leather and dark wood. I regularly saw a silver CL600 on the Tay Bridge in the olden days of commuting to work. I suspect Mrs Tim might have me committed if I went after one though.

Is that the version of cL that Clarkson bought in V12 guise for a Top Gear challenge and that cost him thousands for repairs? I think it was injector or coil pack issues. But they are spectacularly barge-tastic cars all the same.

There's some American you tuber that has a thing for Mercs in general and these CL65s in particular. I saw a vid where he went to a salvage auction and found one going for $19k with low miles and history but damaged. It started on the key no problem though. Haven't found another vid to see if he bought it though.

No, but great to see a GT car used properly

No, but great to see a GT car used properly It's probably done as many miles around the 'Ring as it has on the road.

I always thought the Opel versions were much better looking.

I always thought the Opel versions were much better looking. I agree. I regularly saw one in the mid-80s and it looked fantastic and almost a slice of exotica!

Mechanically identical to the Monza, but a bit less sporty looking. Still a lovely car though. I still kick myself for not buying one when I had the chance.

Oh BMW, where did you go so wrong with your styling! Look at those beautifully simple instrument graphics. Is Mrs Racing happy with her next car?

The 8 Series is the highest watermark for BMW styling.

The 8 Series is the highest watermark for BMW styling. The old 8 or the new one? If it's the old one I agree although I think there are a few others that are right up there too like the E24 635CSi

Definitely the old one. The new one looks like a bloated 4 Series.

The 8 series is in its snotty phase in my eyes but give it 10 years and I’ll think they look great again.

Now by rights I should not like this....but I do... ddclassics.com/car-listing/pontiac-grand-safari-lhd/If I was a squillionaire with a very grand country estate, I'd like something wonderfully kitsch like this for ferrying guests around the estate, or for taking them between the house and the helipad (it obviously being naff and wrong for the helipad to be next to the house where the sound might disturb...)!

The rearmost seats don't look particularly comfortable, but you wouldn't have to walk the streets carrying a tree on your shoulder if you had one of those!

A Ghostbusters special! Have to admit I don't really see the appeal but then if I was a squillionaire I'd have to find unusual things to spend my money on and it is probably cheaper than a service for the helicopter.

Coincidentally isn't one of those Chevy Chase/Lampoons movies now on Netflix?
I think we need to consider an intervention.
