It is is bloody freezing here. First properly cold day. Feels more like October or November with a chilling Northerly wind.

9 deg C outside at 7:15am this morning according to the car external temperature gauge..... but I didn't really feel that a jacket was necessary.
However cars in the road were seriously wet with condensation; seems to have warmed up again nicely this morning :-)

I presume you're up in the hills though, so it would be bit colder?
I was out in the car on Tuesday night and at 10pm it was 7 outside.

11 degrees when I set of this morning, about 8.30. But I'm Northern and always wearing shorts, so that's a pretty balmy day for me.

On the cool side last night so the single fleece blanket may need some addition. A bit early for that tho'.

It did feel cold this morning, was 8c at just after 6am. Used the heated seats for the first time in this car, coverage is very good (right to the top of my shoulders) and the heat made the morning back massage even better!

9c this morning with a lot of dew and wet cars, warmed up pretty quickly though and the afternoon got a bit stuffy and warm.
I am soon foreseeing the heating "discussion" or in the real world, the wife putting the heating on and whacking it up when it's not really needed; she starts work early so is up when it's "cold", like most women she has absolutely zero concept of how the heating or a thermostat works and zero concept of perhaps making sure windows and doors are closed first before putting the heating on.
I like to try and make it until October before the heating goes on, at least the youngest (just as bad as the wife) is off to uni at the end of the month so that'll be one less female in the house to battle when it comes to the heating and inappropriate use of it.

I never turn our heating off - it’s set using a programmable thermostat which never gets touched unless I want to override a time.
I’ve had to light the fire last night and tonight. Even living 850 feet above sea level, that’s early in the year.

It must be a different micro climate in the Cotswolds because, while a bit more autumnal, I would not describe it as properly cold.
I had a drive up to the wild wastelands of the North (Sheffield) today and even that didn't seem particularly cold.

Lovely day here today and I've got the rest of the day off at the Butterwick Hospice Golf Day at Rockcliffe Hall! Prize for a hole in one at the 15th is an Alfa Romeo Guillietta. Don't worry I'll stick it on here for first offers before eBaying it.

I always loved the rain. It seemed I was able to go a lot quicker in the wet; maybe only relative to the numpties though.

So, when do the winter tyres go on?

So, when do the winter tyres go on? Not yet, it was 20c this afternoon. Have you seen the stunning performance that the Crossclimate Plus tyres put in during the recent Autoexpress tyre test? Good all round as you’d expect, but 2nd overall in the snow was a big surprise. Only £105 each in the 18” size the Golf would need, seriously tempted to get them instead of full winters.

May well be a good replacement for the Geoclimates (or something like that) currently adorning my humble steed.

Defender runs BFG A/T all year round which are winter rated with the Alpine rating too. They are brilliant IMO.

We have Crossclimate on the Captur and they were excellent in the snow last winter. Given that our winter temperatures can frequently be well above the point where full winter tyres' grip levels drop off, I think Crossclimates would be the ideal winter set.

Do you have the normal one or the plus/+, which are supposed to be even better?

Just been to check and they are Crossclimate Plus. I felt that the BF Goodrich on the V60 had significantly better grip under braking but there was no denying the impressive ability of the Crossclimates in gaining traction to set off and drive.
I'd have reservations about them on a performance car, fearing that the big tread blocks might numb the handling slightly, but as a winter set, I reckon they would be damn near perfect.

Winters numb the handling a bit anyway, so I think they would be a really good option for our variable temperature winters.

Stunning scenery. We will be feeling the chill this weekend. I fully expect Mark to post a photo of the Landrover in a bit of snow.
