Not seen you here for a while, Garry. Only good enough for you when you're isolated and bored, eh?! (Only joking - hope life's treating you well.) I know! I'm pretty busy still. Life is good

She’s got a Ribble AL e. Range is about 60 miles, but you can get an additional battery that sits in the bottle cage and that will get you 100 miles in total. I don’t think there’s any recharging through pedalling (not sure though), but if the battery goes flat you’re down to peddle power alone - it weighs 13.5 kg which is ok. I’d guess the battery and motor are 3 kg. Assistance stops once you pass 15 mph, but that’s enough speed for a commute. It cost about £1800, so not cheap. If I had a daily commute of less than 15 miles I think I’d choose an ebike.

You might remember that I'm a keen triathlete and so pretty used to cycling. Last year my wife bought an electric bike which i thought was a bit of a gimmick, but I've become a convert! Its brilliant for local trips and puts a smile on my face very time. I like catching roadies on trick aero bikes, but the biggest thrill is on off-road tracks where its like being on a rollercoaster. Exercise-wise I'd estimate it's about half the effort of pedal power alone. Anyone else tried one?

I'm a fan. Not sure I could live with one though. The 991 is easy to live with and therefore gets some use - you can treat it like a normal car and it blends in enough with the world so as not to make you a target. Not sure about the i8 - getting out of it on a wet day onto a high kerb might be less than elegant! Plus, I can take the 991 to a business meeting by without eyebrows being raised, not sure about the i8. The risk is that it would just sit in the garage because it's a bit too 'special'. I still could be tempted though.

That's nice. I was picked up in one at Manchester airport the other week and was very impressed. It had that feeling of isolating the outside world that a big Mercedes can do so well. It's top of the list when the Audi lease is up.

I was at a family party in Doncaster last night. They're mostly loyal labour voters (i'm the black sheep in that regard!), but they will not vote for Corbyn. There were three themes; they don't trust him with defense, they don't trust him with refugees, they think he'll spend loads. They are mostly in favour of Brexit and want it to happen. May is sufficiently neutral and seen as safe and capable that I think she'll pick votes up even in Doncaster. (btw, this was an area where there were street parties when Thatcher died). I think it will be a labour wipe out, with just those who blindly tick that red box voting for Corbyn. 150 seats? I also think it's not fixable because of how labour elects leaders.
We've got a messy few years because of two bad decisions; Cameron stupidly took the bait on the brexit vote, and Milliband instituted a voting system that means the labour party are destined to pick candidates that appeal to the membership, not the country. At a time when we need proper scrutiny and debate on brexit, a diminished opposition will spend their time in endless conversations as to whether Corbyn wasn't left wing enough, or blaming the media or Tony Blair.
