Kuga: 4541 long x 2086 wide (incl mirrors) x 1749 high X3: 4726 long x 2089 wide (incl mirrors) x 1676 high I knew it was significantly longer then the Kuga but I have my suspicions about the height So, they are same width, the X3 is lower and I certainly wouldn’t say 7” is enormous….. 😀😀 Seriously, you're right, there's nothing in it footprint wise though Chris' figures do illustrate the Kuga's rather ungainly height which gives it rather odd proportions.

I think it works very well in silver, perhaps it hides the comedy grille better than a darker colour. Well I don’t think it could ever be described as a looker but as SUVs go I like it more than most (probably with the exception of the Jag F Pace). It also drives and handles much better than I expected - almost BMWish. The mild hybrid also seems to smooth out the stop start and give extra pep during acceleration.

Nice, I have no issues with anyone wanting an SUV. It isn't massive in any case. Cheers. I just need to get the bull bars fitted now.

I've been busy with work recently so I didn't get the chance to flag up a purchase decision on a new car. I was recently contacted by Lloyd BMW in Newcastle offering to value my car and I was pleasantly surprised by what they offered. I bought the 320d Touring just over two years ago for £25k and since then have put on 32k miles. I've looked after it and they offered just over £19k for it. I thought this was not a bad deal and with a bit of prompting by the missus I went down to the dealership to talk to the (very attractive) sales woman. The problem was I'm still doing a good number of miles every day so a diesel was really my best option and the new 3 series wasn't doing it for me, nor the 4. I quite liked the 5 series but there seemed to be a bit of a shortage and no real offers. She asked if I'd considered an X3 as they had some pre-ordered stock coming in (there's a mild facelift coming for 2022) and they all had the digital dash and a couple of options, so did I want a test drive. Despite my initial reservations I took out a new 2.0d M Sport mild hybrid and to be honest, I really liked it. It's more refined than the 3, I do love the higher driving position (that's why I like the Cashcow so much) and the interior quality wise is now on a par with the 5 series. In short, I was sold. We did the deal, factored in a new car discount and I'm not paying much more per month than I was for the 320d. So here it is: Picked it up last night. The options are a heated steering wheel and something else which I forget what. Glacier Silver, a colour I love. If I was going to change anything I'd maybe upgrade the wheels from 19" to 20" or 21" but it was another couple of grand so I wasn't inclined to do so. So I've joined the much hated SUV brigade and I am now open to abuse!

So having watched Your Honour, Bloodlands and Mare of Easttown I have decided that the mantra for modern TV thrillers is to have no characters that the viewer can have any empathy with. There was not one character in any of them you felt sorry for, felt deserved a good break or even acted rationally more often than not. I quite like them as you don’t know who they are going to kill off next or that ‘the hero’ will emerge unscathed at the end.

The plural of Lexus is Lexus. The plural of Mercedes is Mercedes. Always wondered why people struggle with this? I’d say Lexus, but the Partridge reference seemed appropriate…. Oh totally, in my case.

From memory there were a number of motors, usually rally homologation types, that had no folding rear seats for rigidity. No rhyme or reason for them on a road car but homolgation rules were/are fairly strict. My Legacy Turbo had a solid rear bulkhead and fixed rear seats. So did both my Lexus.

The new job isn't doing my fuel economy any good..... From getting just under 50mpg commuting 20 miles each way largely on the M3, the Fiesta is now struggling to crack 35mpg on the approx 3 miles each way drive to and from work. I can at least console myself with the fact that a week's commuting costs about the same as a day's commute previously did, but I'm not sure that these short trips are good for the engine. I'll be interested to see what consumption I get out of the Kuga on the new commute, and the bike seems a realistic option in the summer on dry days Been using the Kuga on the commute for a few weeks now, and it's returning better mpg than the Fiesta If I had only a 3 mile commute I’d sell the Kuga or the Fiesta, probably the latter, and get a 5 litre Mustang because fuel economy would no longer be an issue for me. Or I’d cycle.

Not sure why you're waiting for your second jab to take effect before venturing across London when you've just had a trip to Italy! Not because of that, but I can't go this week due to quarantine and since my jab is Monday, I thought I'd leave it in case I didn't feel well Tues/Weds (like after the first one). If I feel fine I might also go next week but I have a virtual conference (it's Riyadh-based) on Weds so little point that day. I think you’ll be fine, I had no side effects whatsoever with my second jab.

Yes, the chip shortage is affecting us badly as well. Part of the problem with the auto industry is that, by the time a new model is released, the technology is already dated and chip manufacturers are more interested in selling newer, more lucrative, chipsets. Add in the fact the auto industry has everything costed down to fractions of pennies and wants everything at very low margins, it's not an attractive market for manufacturers.

Maybe older women looking for a new adventure need to reinvent themselves as Classics. Or Barn Finds. Don't make 'em like that any more, properly tactile feel, plenty of character, and either 'delightfully original patina' or 'fastidious full restoration'... The Executive & Prestige section doesn’t look bad. Maintained regardless of cost.

Why wouldn’t you just run your boiler on biofuel? Is that allowed? No problem then. I will still burn wood/smokeless anyway as we have a dual fuel system. Well from what I've read, in this brave new world, biofuel will be classed as carbon neutral so those with oil boilers will be ok.

I'd love to try and heat my house with air source heat pump. Ground source is possible, but at what cost? I'll be buying a new oil boiler just before anything like this goes ahead. Either that or burn lots of wood/smokeless. Why wouldn’t you just run your boiler on biofuel?

Talking to Northern Gas Networks, they are running trials in the Leeds area where they are blending hydrogen with natural gas as a way of reducing emissions. Going forward the major boiler manufacturers are developing hydrogen fuelled boilers. Other options include bio fuelled oil boilers and heat interface units in high density housing.

Don't you think, however, that this (by design) operates to give Johnson much-needed political cover to take actions otherwise unpalatable to voters that are made to seem reasonable compared to the recommendations of the gloomier SAGE members? It certainly reduces his wiggle room and intensifies the spotlight on his decisions. I don’t think they help him in any way.

Scientists from SAGE have delighted in putting themsleves front, right, and centre at every opportunity, releasing new predictions on a weekly basis, and frequently at odds with the decisions the Government is making. If the public does lose patience with SAGE it will be their own doing.
I've not seen any SAGE prediction that is more optimistic than any of the 4 UK administrations.
