I used to drive in Edinburgh a bit and completely avoided the bus lanes. They do have a sign that tells you the operating hours but it's about 8 inches square, mounted about 8 feet up on a pole at the side of the road so you'd have to stop and probably get out to read it. Can't do that if the road's busy so the best option is complete avoidance. That's all part of Edinburgh's fight against the car. I don't think I have been in Edinburgh for about 4 years as a consequence but like you I just give all bus lanes a wide berth. I remember being able to drive into Edinburgh on an evening and always find a parking spot in the George St/Queen St area. Not any more.

The aluminium ones are in readiness for road pricing replacing VED. What does aluminium do that plastic doesn't in connection with road pricing? I'm having a tin foil hat day.

Well Victory is rather older, as is the Mary Rose. Anything remotely large gets scrapped. The navy is hardly sentimenta; about these things. Do we have HMS Dreadnoght? There is also HMS Warrior too but again it's rather older and hardly a USS Texas, HMS Belfast?

Sadly I find it takes a social media campaign to get results these days. My mother in law had problems with her Wren kitchen installation and was getting nowhere so some determined tweeting and I had an area manager, a new installation team and a cheque for compensation sorted. Similarly with my Sainsbury’s bank credit card I was getting pissed about by the contact centre so a bit of tweeting about how crap they are and I had a phone call, an apology and £100 paid into my current account.

My Huntsman Swiss Army knife. My dad brought it home from Switzerland for me thirty odd years ago and I use it all the time. A couple of years ago I lost it and turned the whole house upside down for three days looking for it. Eventually I gave up and went down to my local outdoors store to buy its exact replacement. Getting home I sat at my desk and then spotted the old one underneath the pull out paper tray of my printer…

I think if even hugely risk averse Neil Ferguson is saying it's a step that should be taken now then I'm pretty comfortable.
It's probably just to give him time to work on the next great biological disaster that's about to strike us..

We need to learn to live with COVID without crippling the country and restricting its population. I'm all for freedom. Yeah, we have to open up and accept the increase in cases. Best to do it now, in Summer, rather than in 3 months time, ready for Winter.

Gateshead council have put temporary lanes in at the approaches to the Tyne Bridge in preparation for when it goes down to single lane each way (allegedly to reduce pollution but will result in gridlock crossing the Tyne elsewhere). They are adamant their signs are clear but they’re still catching over 100 drivers a day as once you see the bus lane you’re trapped and have no way of avoiding it.

So it's like a mobile vintage tent? Sounds like a special car. I hope the seat alteration works and you enjoy it for many years. I like to think of it more in terms of vintage aircraft construction... So while the rest of us watch the in rear view mirror for approaching Audis, you’ll be on the lookout for Messerschmitts… Sounds great anyway, assuming you don’t end up in the Channel it’ll be fascinating to see the pics.

I thought all BMWs had runflats nowadays. Is it just cars though? Possibly. It seems the X models don't. Got a PCN in today for driving in a bus lane in Gateshead where they've fucked up the approaches to the Tyne Bridge.

Thread resurrection; one of my neighbours was on Dragon's Den with his range of high protein, low sugar bars and on the back of the success has got a Urus. I can't remember seeing one before but his is completely black, the only colour on it is the yellow of the brake callipers. It looks bloody sinister as it pootles about, like some sort of Batmobile.

Don’t be intimidated. If your reviews are purely factual and accurate you have nothing to fear. They can threaten but if you are just reporting facts they have no case to go after you, no matter what they may threaten.

600 miles in,all going well. Currently sat in a supermarket car park with a completely flat tyre, waiting for BMW assistance. What I'd give for a set of runflats now. Don’t you have a can of foam? Hopefully it didn’t take them too long to arrive and the tyre was repairable? Foam didn’t work. Tyre is fucked, big hole where a screw has gone in and come out. BMW assist came out quickly and put a plug in it so I can get around until it’s replaced Monday. As I’ve said before, for safety’s sake, particularly my wife’s, I prefer runflats.

We are getting lead times on some processors stretching into 2023, it’s a nightmare. A fire at a factory in Japan has also caused a global shortage of crystal oscillators used in wireless products.

Update from police is that the motorcycle has a broken femur and being operated on today. I hope that the motorcyclist is also OK...... 😀 I did make sure the bike was getting picked up by a recovery truck as I expect Triumph Bonneville 650s are quite valuable. The copper was saying they attended a similar accident on Sat and the bike in question was a Brough Superior worth a conservative £60k.

What a bummer getting your brand new car side swiped though. Glad the old guy is as well as can be expected in the circumstances but I bet if he has a wife, that will be his last ride out! ^^ This! Sorry to hear this - at least it presumably cannot be considered in any way your fault. Yeah, it is what it is. We could have been talking about a fatality. As I said the witnesses were trying to put blame on him but I said to the police it really looked like an accident to me and that's the way they are going to treat it. Once he was safely in the the ambulance we had a bit of a laugh with them when they got brooms out to slweep the road, asking if they had yo go on a special course and the usual Trigger's broom comments.

So this'll make you laugh. Sort of.
Stationary at a narrow bridge, giving way to oncoming traffic there was a tremendous bang at the rear of the car and a motorcyclist flew past my driver's side window, before skidding down the road with his motorcycle. I got out of the car and examined the elderly motorcyclist who was conscious but unable to get up or move his right leg. I phoned for an ambulance and then the police and waited for them to arrive. Fortunately, in the line of traffic waiting to come across the bridge towards me were an off duty paramedic, and off duty policeman, and a doctor. Paramedic, then police and then ambulance arrived and road was closed for an hour while they took statements from me and witnesses. A couple in the car coming towards me stated that they had seen the motorcycle approach the rear of my car and slow before attempting to overtake and get across the bridge before they crossed. The motorcycle was a Triumph Bonneville 650 of some vintage so I pointed out to the police that it was more likely he found himself unable to stop quick enough with the all round drum brakes and then tried to swerve to avoid me, coming a right cropper. The guy is 73 and they've taken him to hospital with a suspected broken hip/pelvis and possibly arm. I think he'll be OK as he was quite lucid when talking to us. Damage to my car is smashed rear driver's side offside light cluster, creased rear quarter panel. scuffing to that and rear passenger door and some damage to the wheel arch trim. The bike survived remarkably intact with just a smashed headlight, indicator and bent foot rest. I'm thankful we're not looking at a fatality but I know this is going to be a right chew on insurancewise.

It seems to me that everyone (and I include myself) is anti-SUV for a whole host of reasons until they actually get one and then they become converted. If we were to have only one car it would be a SUV. Prophetic you were. Yes, I think owning the Cashcows started my turn towards the dark side.
