Back in the days when we were allowed to go shopping, I had a look in a Lego store and was amazed at the complexity (and price!) of some of the kits. There was a tasty-looking Land Rover for a start, which doubtless some people on here would like. And some Star Wars kits - big ones - that are more up my street!
I have been on something of a production run of 1:48 WW2 aircraft models and have really been enjoying it. Not sure Tina likes it so much, but it has helped with bonding with her son, who is amazing at the kits for his age...

I've got a Beaufighter and a Mosquito waiting in boxes to be started (bought about 10 years ago!) and a Meteor that's been 3/4 built for about 15 years. For some reason I also bought a couple of battleships around the same time and there are a few other unstarted ones in a box that hasn't been unpacked yet.

I think a Lego library system would make a lot of sense as once you've built it I just don't see the point in having it. That said, I've seen a few pictures of the Lego Defender that have been adapted into pick-ups and the 5 door version.

For some reason I also bought a couple of battleships around the same time and there are a few other unstarted ones in a box that hasn't been unpacked yet. OK - so I started the models again a couple of years ago and did a 1:48 BF109-E and FW190 D-9. Since lockdown I have done a Spitfire XIV and Mustang D, and also a bigger flying model (a foam Puss Moth, which I sprayed and it looks great). Some are sprayed (with Tamiya cans) and some hand painted, which I enjoy a lot. Waiting to go are a 1:48 Mosquito (one my dad bought over 20 years ago, never did, and that ended up in my loft - like the Puss Moth), Spitfire Mk1, and Sea Fury - I want to do a great job of the latter as its the ultimate piston engined fighter (the ultimate WW2 one was the Tempest but its hard to find a kit of it, only Typhoons). I want a Tomahawk or Kittyhawk, and P-47, and a stubbier nosed earlier FW190 (love them). Then maybe a P-38, a Hayate, a Typhoon, and the venerable Hurricance, and so on...

I'd love a detailed diecast car kit with no painting involved like those DeAgostino magazine jobbies, but that don't cost you 1200 quid in the process. They used to be available but I don't know where you'd buy one these days.

Cheers for the links! I was aware there was an Eduard kit but I have no idea who they are, and supply seems on and off. I bet we are not the only ones getting back into this in lockdown... I generally prefer Tamiya kits (good detail and not too much building), the Spitfire I did last was one of the newer Airfix kits and while it all went together well, it took a long time to build - an I prefer the painting really.
I hand paint some, and while they often end up with brush marks, if you look at photos of aircraft from that time they often have really rough paint jobs and big marks where they have been hand painted with large brushes! That said, the internet is awash with incredibly well finished models (planes as well!) that look superb. The lengths some go to is immense...
Edited to add - 233 1:48 WW2 era kits..... This wonderland models site could get dangerous! I have a feeling I have already used them for some paints, good service....
One day I'll get back into RC flight as well - I had an electric model as a teenager, but today's Lipo batteries and brushless motors, and cheap RC, make it far more accessible....

One of my mates got back into modelling about 5 years ago - he's converted his garage and now has an air extraction system for when he's using an airbrush. I'm sure he rates the Eduard kits very highly and he's made positive comments about the recent retooled Airfix ones too.
Eduard are Czech. I've just looked them up and they have an English language version of their online shop. They're selling the Tempest V kit for £18.73 presumably plus shipping.

I did have The Smell Of... too, but on VHS. Never did get around to re-purchasing it after I chucked all the videos out years ago.

I noticed Vic Reeves on there too. Hes currently hosting a flower arrangement version of bake off on Netflix but he does it completely deadpan with not a hint of silliness and it's slightly offputing because I keep expecting him to do something daft and he doesn't!

I spent a very enjoyable 1+ hour on YouTube the other day watching compilations of Bob Mortimer's appearances on Would I Lie To You.

So, copying Tim's visit, I went onto the Wonderland Models site to look for a single tinlet of paint to finish off my Sea Fury (awaiting dry weather to begin spray painting outdoors). I bought two tinlets.... and four models (two 1:48 for me and two 1:72 for the boy). I'm trying a Hobbykings P-47D (they seem good value and review as well as Tamiya et al) and a Tamiya FW190 A-3, which I will paint up in Desert colours like one of these. You can do what you want with German colours - they changed them a lot for the local environment. If I don't go for plain tan coloured on top, I will try the mottled markings on top of the tan, not sure how yet (sponge brush?) but it looks super cool if you get it right. I must also get into weathering..... That is now, for me, in WW2 1:48 scale: Done pre lockdown: FW190D-9; BF109E Post Lockdown: P-51D; Spitfire X1V; Sea Fury (almost) In stock/ordered to build: FW190 A3; P-47D; Spitfire Mk1; Mosquito (old kit my dad had which has no cockpit in the box!)

The 1:24 Ju87 my dad and I built was painted in desert camo. We didn't have an airbrush or anything like it at that time, but a combination of sponge and stipple brush did the trick. Took a few practice runs to get it spot-on though.
(Sorry about that! )

I was browsing on Amazon last night for some photographic stuff and the Audi as per Alex's avatar is on offer, reduced to £12, so there's one on its way to me now........ .... and the Ducati is released now but holds no interest to me
