Just coming to the end of the last week in my ownership. I know it's psychological, but it's felt particularly quick and sharp this week, but it must know what's going on because it's been slightly more economical as well!
I've been looking back over the running costs, (ignoring depreciation and fuel as I've covered that before) and I think it's been particularly good. The first two services were paid for up front (£475), it had another 3 totalling £1405 and the rear pads were replaced at 51k miles. Having done 96,400 miles, it's telling me it will need new front pads and discs in 1,400 miles, but I'm amazed they lasted as long as they have and the rear pads and discs have loads of life left. 8 tyres cost £1,665 (6 summer + 2 winter) but 2 of them were only 25% worn when they got punctured....running winter tyres obviously helped as I did 30,910 miles on them and 65,522 on the summers. I think the only other cost was 1 x MOT and a pair of wiper blades, it never needed oil between services.
The only issue was the steering wheel started to wear in a way that I wasn't happy with back in October 2017, but that was all good because I got a brand new one! No other problems at all, not even a rattle.
Really great car, I'm definately going to miss it.

Original plate back on and ready to go..... Final mileage. Terrible mpg, I was trying to use up as much fuel as possible!

I don't think any forum car has ever had a thread as long as this one did over at the old place. Maybe the 750i will. And if you think that mpg is bad...!
It sounds like it was a great car, though and hopefully it's next owner will enjoy it just as much. Bring on the replacement!

Probably not....but I’ve made up for it by not starting one on here until today! I’m sure they will.

You’ve always sounded very pleased with it so it’s understandable that you’ll miss it but I imagine the 750 will put the smile back on your face quite quickly. Until you start recording it’s mpg...

What is the dial at the bottom the tacho showing? I've been staring at it trying to work it out. It seems to have a battery sign and values - battery condition indicator?

It a modern version of the old instant mpg ‘swingometer’, the section to the left/the battery shows when it’s topping up during braking. (Part of the efficient dynamics tech)

Did you trade the 535 in to the dealer?

Did you trade the 535 in to the dealer? No, stupid offer so ended up doing what I didn’t really want to, which was VT. Felt OK about it in the end as it would still be in negative equity when the finance was up in 5 months and I was sticking with BMW. Didn’t use their finance this time though, it’s all mine.

"High spec" sells it short. It should be listed as "Martin spec".

At least it is actually high spec - I've looked at a lot of approved used 3 series recently and they all have 'high spec' against them, even the ones that have no optional extras. Some of them don't even have heated seats for gods sake

Better pictures now. I don’t know what they’ve done to the leather to make it shiny, I spent over 3 years keeping the seats matt. I can’t find the words to react properly to the carbon badge!

When you VT a PCP, I know you have to have paid off 50% of the total to be eligible. But is that 50% of the (deposit + payments for the full term + the balloon), or just (deposit + payments for the full term)?

I believe it is 50% of the total ie car price and charges total is £20k then once you have paid 10k you can VT

What happens if your circumstances change halfway through the PCP term, you have to VT and you're broke so can't pay the amount to get to 50%?

You can sell the car at any time and pay off the outstanding balance, the problem is that if it’s in negative equity then you’ll need to cover the gap. No more or less risky than a bank loan unless I’m missing something?

Thanks Martin, someone I know is in that position but I think if they sell the car they'll be in negative equity and they don't have any money to make up the shortfall so looks like they can only default.

Unfortunately that’s their only option unless they can find an affordable way to financing the negative equity.
