Job uncertainties with mine and especially Julie's job has meant that we have decided to delay changing our car for the time being.
It may be 13 years old now, 90,500 miles but it does still do everything we want from a car.
To this end I have just purchased 4 new tyres for it as the current Michelin Pilot Sport 3's are down to the wear indicator and there is a noticeable drop in grip, handling (especially in the wet and on greasy surfaces) and ride, so they are going to make way for 4 x Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2's on 225/40 R18 Y92 XL. Read very positive reviews on these tyres and a friend of mine runs them as praises them. Increase in cornering grip and lowers road noise and excellent in wet too
Bought them from Black Circles. They are doing a 10% discount promotion on certain branded tyres for today only so I have got them ordered, and to be fitted on Wednesday, balanced the full job for £346 all in, that's £86.50 per tyre. That's damn good for me. Kwik Fit quoted £94 per tyre to supply and fit so I very happy with this deal
I am off to Wales with the family at the end of May (Whitson half-term) so will give me a chance to try them out on some superb, smooth Welsh roads
Whilst I am at it, it's service time, so booked it in on Thursday with my friendly mechanic in Daventry who will change all the filters, new oil and give the car a good once over and give it some engine carbon cleaner. Just bog standard service parts but gives me the reassurance that it's in the best shape it can be for its age
I am off to Blenheim Palace this coming Sunday with a friend for their Supercars at the Palace show, a prequel to their larger event in September so eager to so if a service makes the car perform any different
No troubles at the moment, touch wood, starts sweetly runs well, boosts up well, still achieves 50+mpg on a good run. Despite a few minor parking scratches and a rust patch between the sill and the rear wheel arch, which I will attend to in the summer, it remains a perfectly great car. Large boot, great stereo, comfy seats, bags of equipment and pulls well. I would like a wee bit more power but overall I cannot complain
