Driving back from Ghent to Calais, admittedly not in a rush (cruise on and in eco pro) since we had loads of time before our train and I was trying to respect low Belgian speed limits, I was nevertheless impressed by this range indication after I stopped to fill up:

Engine's barely ticking over at 75, is it? How big's the tank?

60 litres I think.
I think the low revs are a benefit of the 8spd box - 8th is effectively overdrive.

That is surprisingly high geared, it’s close to mine (45mph/1000rpm). I saw over 1100km range when I was in France last year, but that dropped to 1000km fairly quickly.
Continental mpg is always better, my record is Dover to Milan on one tank, but that was in the 520d.

That is surprisingly high geared, it’s close to mine (45mph/1000rpm) Imagine if you could redline it!

What's a km again?
That's similar gearing to the XFR - with 6 speeds! If I get an 8 speed version next, that really will be low rpm at a motorway cruise...
I saw 31.9 the other day for a trip back down the M3 with an already warm engine.

The SAAB has been getting more economical of late. Early in its tenure it was getting 44mpg average to a tank, the last 3 have all been over 47 and the latest one has been 49.5. That's bloody good considering I'm not especially trying to be economical and it's a mixture of cruise control motorway miles and local plodding with the missus and kids.
