Looks like a VW!
Apart from the wheels being a tiny bit Carlos Fandango, that looks good.

Indeed, slightly less flared arches and narrower wheels would suit it better.
Mk1 Golf is another car that matches the design brief in the simplest way possible.

I had a Black MK1 XR2 for the road and raced another tuned red one at the same time. I really enjoyed mine although it was made at the time when Ford had designed everything to break or fall off after 2 years - at least the bits were cheap and easy to fix. It was a bit of a Go Kart too and there are some corners I come to today and wonder how I managed to go round it so quickly in the XR2 - in our local group there were certain notable corners and on and off ramps where there was an unofficial record cornering speed and the XR2 was always near the top of the tree.

I love Mk1 Fiestas. Lose the flares, too-wide wheels and the black number plate and it's perfect.
Also, that exhaust manifold is usually used on Zetec turbo conversions. I've never seen one on a NA engine.

Goes to show something that the basic chassis setup on the Fiesta remained largely unchanged until the most recent version, if my memory is correct.

I thought the Mark 3 (the one that included the RS Turbo version) was a new platform as it was a reasonably larger car than the first 2?

I'm basing this assumption on the fact that you can fit Puma suspension to earlier cars without trouble. The newest model appears to have independent rear suspension rather than beam.

I thought the Mk3 was a new floorpan and evolved into the fish-faced Mk4 (?). Not sure if the subsequent sqaurer one was a new floorpan or not.
Perhaps it wasn't really new but a stretched version of the original, hence the parts crossover.

I think the first generation Corsa (sold here at least) was based on a Nova. That lasted a long time.

Wiki confirms you are correct.
Wiki concludes that I'm a sad bastard for actually knowing that
I don't even like Fords!

I think the first generation Corsa (sold here at least) was based on a Nova. That lasted a long time. It also explains why it was such an understeery shitpile to drive.

I love those wheels, but the silly low pro stretch tyres ruins the look (IMHO).
It must go like a shit house rat up a drainpipe though.

That's got to be running an easy 160 bhp on bike carbs and lumpy cams. More than enough for an 800kg box like the Fiesta.

I've started following that FB group since you shared the photo of that utterly lovely Mk1 Fiesta, Mark. There are some horrors on there but there are some quite nicely modified cars too. I even liked that Talbot Horizon!!

Ford really got it right with that car. Cheap, compact and a design free of any fussy details. It looks just right. If I remember correctly, the original design is by Tom Tjaarda (of Pantera fame). Which would explain things...

For some strange reason, I thought the Pantera reference was about the band! 😳

The band is (in part) named after the car. Although the main reference is the fact that Pantera is Spanish for Panther, the fact that a car the drummer had seen was called a Pantera sealed the deal (because it was a cool as fuck).
