Smashing up perfectly good motors, on Top Gear? Or any other program.
Oh well, another one bites the dust.

Fun . Entertainment .
They’re piece of metal at the end of the day, and they’ve paid for them, so why not

Another amazing Top Gear tonight I thought. Smashing up an RX7 is hardly like smashing up some variety of 250 Ferrari and they did go in some style

I thought the idea of a challenge where the idea was to cut a profit made some sense but then smashing them up? OTT and pointless.

It's an RX7, the engine is on its way out anyway.

Quite enjoyed the episode. Really not that bothered about the demise of an RX-7 or the wrong type of Skyline!
I am seeing less point of having Rory Reid each episode.

I haven't caught up with the programme yet but have you seen what an RX7 goes for now? one of the many 'classics' that seems to fetch inexplicably high money these days.

To be fair his piece last night was quite good and provided a break from Harris and LeBlanc’s bromance. It is noticeable that he does a lot less with the other two compared to Clarkson, Hammond and May who did their own things, but still did items together. That said I don’t think it took anything away from an otherwise enjoyable show.

I also enjoyed the show, but also have sympathy with Mike's point of view. For anyone who might have wanted an RX7, it was a shame to see the damage inflicted on the car.

I'm not one who particularly enjoys gratuitous violence towards what were otherwise perfectly good cars. And I didn't like the cartoon element either but overall it was good fun.

That was a great episode. I loved the Lexus v Civic piece and the Tekken references. The Lexus is a beautiful as the Civic is ugly. I was a sceptic when they said Top Gear was continuing without the other three but I have to say they are taking it and making it their own. The last series of The Grand Tour had a feeling of tiredness already, as if they were just going through the motions, whereas the new Top Gear has the feeling of something that has legs (or wheels).

I would say the Lexus and Civic were equally as ugly, but beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, or something. 10 gears is a bit much for a V8 with a large powerband - normally only that many gears are need for shitboxes with small powerbands. 10 gears is too many for a pushbike, let alone a car. Lexus sounded good though and didn't seem to have to resort to the fake farty crackling that Jags do.
I can't bring myself to like the Civic either. I've owned and driven fast Civics before and they were a hoot, but the new one just screams "Massive throbber". You know the type: Wears the Honda racing jacket everywhere, turns up at trackdays with race shoes and his back seats taken out, over analyses every corner yet is nowhere near as fast as half the other people just having a bit of a laugh.

Nor am I really, but the damage done wasn't anything like as much as would have happened on old TG!

I have absolutely no idea how they bought those cars at that auction! With the speed that Matt was pressing that button he probably outbid himself many times over. I saw the same auction room on a programme to do with business and in reality it isn't quite as manic as they made it out to be but you do have to be quick.
