I should like this...it's a Mercedes (my favourite German brand as it happens, not that you'd guess), it's an AMG, it's a coupaloon-thingy based on the AMG GT which I really like and it goes like stink:
www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-germancars/mercedes-amg-gt-four-door-geneva-2018/37634
But I am not sure that I particularly do. "Don't likes" include:
- that new grille which I really heartily dislike; - there's something hunched and first-gen Panamera about the shape; - that clonking great slab of screen on the dashboard; and - the fixed wing on the back of the lairier version.
Plus it will undoubtedly be heinously expensive on the basis that it presumably takes over where the otherwise pretty similar CLS AMG leaves off..

Where does this stand in relation to the 4 door coupaloon they already have, the CLS?
Not that I actually give a shit. Merc lost me a long time ago with their constant desire to invent tenuous niches.

Quite subtle for a current Benz, but still no 'want one' factor for me.

Although the benefit of niches is that one of them might just be perfect for you. But then again, although there are many cars in Merc's back catalogue that I love, it's perhaps telling that I have yet to actually buy a modern one.
I came very close to buying a new C63 in about 2011 but it was just a stretch too far financially.
I looked closely at the CLA45 shooting brake thingy before getting the GC, but it was (a) expensive and (b) I didn't like the engine.
I'd have an AMG GT in a heartbeat given the wherewithal, but it would have to be a second-hand one with the original grille.

From those few pics I quite like the look of the outside, but the interior is a bit too metal clad. Does look an awful lot like the CLS, though.

It's got that hunched shitting dog rear end that was so derided on the Chrysler Crossfire (but clearly acceptable on various German cars).
The new Merc dash reminds me of that in the Rover SD1. It looks ok in a car from the '70s but utterly shit, to my eyes, in something modern.

Looked at a few more pics and I really like it. I'd definitely have these wheels if I could afford one.

Lots of want from here. The interior looks especially lovely.

That rear 3/4 view reminds me of the Renault coupe thing from 5 or 6 years ago.

I love anything big, naughty, sport to drive and not an SUV so like this. Not as nice as the Panamera Turismo, which is pretty much my perfect car, but a good effort.

It looks a lot better without the tacky add-on spoiler in some of the magazine pictures.

I like the side on and rear 3/4 view. But the front looks a mess.
Is this coming out why Merc have made the latest CLS less good looking?
