I like the Golf R and that is a really nice one, but I wouldn't spend over £30k on a used model. It's too close in price to a new facelift car, with its nicer interior.

Yes, surely one to buy at 3 yrs old and sub £20K to avoid big depreciation losses. There is a nice M135i for sale elsewhere on this forum......no hang on.....there isn't any more.

£38k list? You can get around £5k discount. Where from? My local dealer doesn't entertain talking discounts at all, they just show you the door. They're not doing a great job of describing that car, but it looks to have the bigger screen for the nav unit, too, so that's another ridiculous amount on top. Was about £1600 as an option, I think! Pity it doesn't have the Dynaudio upgrade, ad that would make it fully loaded... Have you tried Carwow? When I was looking at Golf R last year they had the same discounts as drive the deal and responded very quickly.

Coast2Coast cars are close to £5k on a basic model with no options, applying the same % discount to the spec you're looking at would would get you to £5k.

That Golf R lease price is pish...these were going for sub £300 last year.
Broadspeed.com (£4570 off a 3dr manual) Coast 2 Coast.
They put you in touch with the relevant retailer, or you can take the quote to your local and they will match it.
However - it only works when you are buying without trade in. It's all well and good brandishing a Broadspeed quote, but they will kick you in the goolies when valuing your A3.

Ask them to value the A3 first, so that you've locked down an acceptable part-ex price before you get into discussions on the price for the new one. That's what I did with my mother's car.

I think I would get a quote for clearing the finance and go on to WBAC and get a quote from them for your old car - if nothing else, it is a starting position and you will get an idea about how big the hole might be.

WBAC are shysters. On the M135i, for which I got £17k in the end, the initial WBAC bid was £13,500 versus a part-ex offer of £14,750. You just know that by the time they view it, that would drop to eg £13k and that's a 25% difference.
Out of curiosity, I just plugged in the details for my wife's car and….guess what….it also came out at 25% below what I reckon we could sell it for privately.

I agree but the WBAC gives an indication of the ballpark figure for a trade in. Selling a car privately is very difficult at the best of times but when a car has finance on it, it becomes much more difficult.

Worst-case scenario though which can also give a wrongly pessimistic view. They were potentially the thick end of £2k below the part-ex price offered to me by the BMW dealer, notwithstanding that the dealer was not in the mood to be generous on the part-ex given they had already pretty much maxxed out their discount on the GC.

A mate used to work for them and he was given in depth training on how to drive down their online quotes to pitiful amounts. Every blemish on the car equalled hundreds knocked off the offer. He got fed up with either making desperate people cry or getting told to fuck off and quit eventually. Soul destroying job apparently. That is no surprise.

Don't forget that WBAC charge an administration fee on top of what they offer you, and they also make you wait a few days before they transfer the money to your bank account. WeWantAnyCar.com seem to offer better prices than WBAC, but their admin charges are a little higher from what I have seen, but they claim to transfer the money to your account within a few hours of taking your old car off you.

I've been trying to remember the name of the company that bought Herself's Disco4 a couple of years ago, sadly to no avail. I do recall they offered very close to a median of Parkers and WhatCar's guides at the time, and the money was paid in to her account while the fella was sitting in our living room! She may have managed another thousand or two selling privately, but going down that route would have driven her (and me!) utterly mad.

We sold my wife's Merc B Class to WBAC at the end of the PCP and got about £300 or £400 more than just handing the car back to Mercedes. We got the price that was shown by the computer and the guy agreed that it was in good condition with no reason to reduce the price.
Maybe those who try to drive a shit heap in and walk away with top money are those who are disappointed the most.
I have just put my car in to WBAC and they will give my £24,550 which is £1,450 more than Mercedes offered me against a near new C63 recently.
Who knows? I am just one who likes to have all the options lined up so that I can make an informed choice.

Another fan of WBAC. They got to within £500 of what I would have got for the car as private sale and therefore seemed a bit of a no brainer. I imagine big engine petrols they class as bad news at auction therefore kick them in the balls when customers ask for a price.

Don't know whether to post this here or elsewhere but just had an e-mail from VehicleSavers.com for a Golf R Estate DSG 310 with Satnav and some other extras, at £2,400 up front and £222.74/mth incl VAT for 2 years at 10K p.a.

Either way they get lumped in with the likes of Wonga in my book. Unscrupulous exploiters of the uninformed for the large part.
Perhaps it's a throwback to my distant Yorkshire ancestors, but I don't like throwing money away merely for want of a bit of effort.

That seems a good deal, might be too restrictive on miles for Simon though. I think the Estate look better than the regular hatch (but then mine is a biased opinion!)

I put the Volvo into WBAC and it was £800 more than Land Rover offered against a Discovery. The WBAC offer lapsed and they sent an email increasing the offer by a further £900.

I put the 535d in.....won't be doing that again! I've no idea what the trade in value would be and I guess WBAC works out better if you haven't got a load of options, but it was some way short of what the finance settlement figure would be.
Edit: their offer is the same as someone is selling a 2011 (11) for, which has similar miles to me, but is 3.5 years older. Being realistic, I think it's £4-5k less than what I'd expect to get.

I think they go cap clean then try to bump down at inspection. Options are worth nothing without a Cap code.
