News emerged earlier this week of tests on monkeys and humans that were carried out by the European Research Association for Environment and Health in the Transport Sector (EUGT), a research group set up and funded by BMW, VAG and Daimler, plus Bosch. The group was closed in 2017.
The closure being stated as nothiug to do with diesel gate. No, of course not.
In the US tests in 2014, ten monkeys were exposed to diesel fumes for several hours and then their organs examined for changes. The human tests were in Germany and involved the human subjects being exposed to NOx levels for several hours and then examined medically.
The sound of the boards of these three four companies distancing themselves from this is comical.

Yes, unsavoury tests go on all the time. We all know that. But on the heels of diesel gate, this is only going to further diminish diesel sales. In fact monkey tests coming out will probably do more to damage sales than all the known device cheating ever did. Self respecting middle class people can probably forgive a bit of cheating on emissions testing in order to enjoy their German engineering. But being associated with companies that test on monkeys? Er...no thanks.
And of course the internet is awash with comments about the Germans having previous form for testing gases on people. Maybe BASF designed the test equipment? ;-)
So is this the further death throes of diesel then?
