So After nearly 4 years I have sold the A6 Allroad.A fantastic machine ,but now on 90k miles and starting to cost more to run than it was worth.
Had a very difficult decision what to replace it with, needed to be 4wd ,capable of carrying 2 largeish dogs.Another allroad or a6 estate was viable but fancied something a little more sporting ,but still comfortable . A macan and f pace were strong contenders but a bit flash for the cars use. I then decided on a 335d x drive touring, but non seem to match the spec I would like. Finally found a car with the prof nav,sunroof..etc etc all the extras I wanted (except the HK speakers ) ,so did the deal yesterday.
Paid a bit more than it was worth but got a better than expected part ex.
Pick it up next week.

Nice but I'd have thought a 3 Series might be a bit small after the A6.

Sounds great
Really interested to hear your thoughts on the engine and how it handles with x-drive

Very nice. What engine was your allroad? Unless it was a BiTDi, the 335dx should feel like a rocketship. Be interesting to see how the shove compares to your Cayman.

Foe me the gt4 really is not fast in a straight line in the sense of what I have owned previously ,it's a league or 2 below the gallardo/aston/997 turbo If I was on the road in the gt4 behind a 335d and a gap opened up and he floored it,unless I had been sat with the engine at say 5000 rpm the 335 d would leave the GT4 behind I think, the gt4 will be faster ultimately ,but in real world it would struggle,it has little shove below high revs. One instance because I wasn't thrashing the bollocks off it I did struggle to keep up with an x5. The gt4 goes on april 10th ,driving it up to Bolton for the OPC to sell for me.

I'm sure John can comment, but the 3/435d is supposed to have monstrous amounts of torque.

I think you'll be quite happy with the performance, especiallly the effortless go at pretty much any revs. Sounds good for a diesel as well when you get past 3,000rpm.

Nice but I'd have thought a 3 Series might be a bit small after the A6. Small is beautiful ,especially on these roads Size is generally not something I consider when choosing a car - the only size requirement is to have 4 seats - I once had a short list that included a Volvo T5 Estate and an Alfa GTV and went from a Cougar to a Mini.

I'm constantly surprised how big our current 3 series estate is compared with the 2 E46s we had. I parked it beside the M5 and it's slightly longer than that.

I don't really like big cars,never have .

I particularly like those alloys on the 3-series Touring. I would have gone for them on my car were it not for the fact that for some reason they don't suit the GC shape nearly as well.

That looks very smart, it will be interesting to see how you compare it to the Allroad It's not quite as comfortable ride wise, but the allroad had air suspension. However it does ride very well, although it lists as a sport model the suspension is I gather SE suspension .The engine is stupid, its basically as quick as my e39 m5 was but does remarkable mpg for the performance, and sounds pretty decent for a diesel, and it is much faster and much more economical, but the audi was nearly 10 years old,I think the newer engines are more comparable. Handling is not as sharp as I would expect from a bmw,but as it is mainly for long runs back and forth to manchester it's not an issue for me,and would rather have comfort in this car than cornering ability. However it is much better handling wise than the audi...isn't quattro basically fwd that sends power to the rear when needed ,and x drive is basically rwd that sends power to the front when needed? My only complaint is the steering wheel,I had this issue with the m6 ,it is too thick...my hands ached after a 90 minute drive and I am not a small bloke .
