As noted elsewhere I hit yet another big pothole last night and it makes me wonder how many accidents are caused by road defects, particularly potholes.
I reported the hole to the local council but does anyone think its actually worth doing a freedom of information request to them, or the police, to see if any crashes are actually recorded as being a result of a car failure caused by problems with the road?
The more I think about it the less likely it seems that this info will be recorded, or even considered, but it strikes me that it must be a cause in some cases.

Must be worth a try.
As sure as night follows day yet another gargantuan hole opened up on the Fosse Way railway bridge at Moreton-in-Marsh this week. It is easy to see why everyone around here drives an SUV.

It amuses me how half the posts on any one-make forum I follow are about lowering/stiffening the suspension. Why the f*** anyone would do that given the state of our roads is beyond me.
The XFR is very comfortable over bad surfaces, but breaking a wheel/tyre would be VERY costly!!!

There are more and more potholes here and I have to try driving around them. Some look like they need climbing gear to traverse.

One of my mates has recently moved to a village down the A701 and his RS6 lasted a month - his wife hit a pothole on a rainy evening and broke a wheel. After wiaitng for 3 hours for recovery back to Edinburgh Audi and then a further 10 days for a new wheel from Germany he gave in a now has a 17 plate Discovery

Try Surrey, potholes here are attrocious.
A cyclist died last year when he hit one and was flung from his bike.

Yes, except compared with the RS6 (and my 320) the Disco has massive sidewalls.

A colleague of mine (Glasgow area) hit a deep pothole hidden by a puddle, went over the bars, and was badly injured - and nearly run over. They can be a serious hazard to cyclists, motorcyclists, and others...
