I saw this story on the BBC website and on the basis of the A9 results it seems like a reasonably good idea.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-39417294
However, it doesn't mention in the story that while the road is a dual carriageway it has very few proper slip road/flyover junctions, most of them are sliproads on the central reservation requiring you to take your chances crossing oncoming traffic. There's one at southern entrance to Forfar that is particularly bad as it's on a cresting bend.
Still, as long as nobody is speeding everything will be ok

It is, you can't even cruise-control along if its busy and when there's a dual carriageway bit everyone dawdles slowly past whatever truck was holding the queue up. I've let Mrs Tim drive it and spent the time looking at the scenery.

I know where you mean, used to drive up regularly from Dundee to the Chinese in Forfar for dinner and there have been some horrendous accidents at that junction. I am amazed that it's still a turn across the oncoming traffic today

The A9 is the most boring/frustrating drive now it has average speed cameras: stuck 20 cars back in a queue doing 45mph with no-one prepared to overtake and as Tim said, when you get to a dual carriageway, Mr 45mph driver suddenly becomes Mr 65 to 70mph and only a handful of people manage to get past just in time for Mr 45mph to kick back in again. Loud music and some sweets are about the only way to cope (or take to some of the small roads and add an hour or so to the journey but that's also where the Police are now!)
When they have these self driving , autonomous pods, I hope they fit them with a massive TV and satellite connection because driving will be purgatory otherwise.
