The V60's MOT was due on 4th Jan but as that clashes with a house move and the Xmas period leaving little spare time, I booked it in on 22nd December. All would be fine, I thought. Oh no. Failed on rear pads being too worn. Now, I knew they were due to be replaced very soon and this was highlighted at the service in September but it seems the V60 T6 eats rear pads quicker than the fronts. So, a quote of 97 quid to fit new pads, including the test fee of 25 quid (a bargain, that is) was arranged for that same day. Phew. The car was needed the next day for a trip to Bath and back to retrieve eldest from uni and then to Norfolk on Xmas eve. That afternoon I got a phone call reporting that one side was done but that the other side was seized and they couldn't wind the caliper back so a new caliper was required. Thankfully they could do it the next day whilst I went to Bath in the Captur. I got a call Saturday afternoon saying it was ready to collect and the bill was 372 bloody quid. On 23rd December. Ouch. At least the trip to Bath was cheaper, at 53mpg.

Oh, and 3 days before this automotive bill, Mrs R reversed the Captur into a lamp post. That's 300 quid to repair the damage. "The sensors didn't work", she said, before admitting they probably did work but as the music was on so loud, she didn't hear them...

Hopefully cheaper in car terms than Christmas. But there's a house move to soak up rather a lot more money...

My mum collapsed 8 days before Christmas and is still in hospital... try fitting in almost daily visits to a hospital half an hour away on top of getting the house ready for 5 extra people including food buying, gift buying and wrapping etc etc....
Then all the power going off one evening which turned out to be an obscure water leak from rain being driven upwards by storm-force winds, shorting out the upstairs lighting circuit whilst depositing a load of rain water on one of the beds......
Merry Christmas indeed, the worst one I can remember for many years. Looking forward to 2018; I've said it every year for a number of years but it's not come true so far.... I hope next year will be better than this one !

It got worse, last night elder daughter was violently ill, throwing up on her dad and all through the house, We were up until half past midnight mopping up vomit from beds, carpets, the stairs, bathroom door and walls .......
Today I had to go and buy a new duvet and bedding as we ran out (she was sick again in the early hours but i slept through that), and one duvet was so badly affected by the illness that it went in the bin:-( She's been to the hospital for a check-up today and it appears she reacted badly to a fatty meal that her other grandparents served her last evening...... ho hum, what's the next disaster that awaits me ?

Sounds similar, albeit much worse, to what my daughter experienced on Xmas Eve. She was in so much pain at one point we thought it had to be appendicitis! It dissipated fairly quickly, but she's still getting nauseous spells and been sick another couple of times.
To be fair, though, this particular 'disaster' seems to belong exclusively to your daughter!

Apart from clearing up the mess, yes. Things could be worse though, at least I wasn't parked at a certain venue in Liverpool. I do wonder how a single vehicle fire can spread to wipe out an entire 1400 space multi storey, possibly including the building itself, even when the Fire Brigade arriving within minutes of the original fire starting.
This could make the single biggest car insurance claim yet, surpassing the rebuild of the McLaren F1 or a train derailment.....

At least there might be some cars saved from that. Unlike the car park.

Initial headlines suggested the fire started in a Land Rover. š¤š³
Iām glad they managed to get all the horses and people out OK. Cars can be replaced.

A lassie who previously stabled her horse at the same yard as Herself was down there to watch the show, in her car, which was parked .. .. .. .. .. .. saw the New Year in heading North on the M6, in a friend's car who happened to be coming home last night and so wasn't parked in the car park. As you say, very lucky no people or horses were hurt, or not too badly at least.

Yeah, they said it was the following morning from a car parked on the top floor of the carpark. Lucky dogs.
