I finished Wednesday and go back January 15th. My sister is over from Oz so spending a lot of the time with her but catching up with family and friends as well. Best thing about Christmas is having time with the other half and dogs around the house.

What is everyone doing over the festive period ? Driving back and forth to the hospital to see mum, sadly:-( We have both daughters and both grand-daughters with us for Christmas, older one's partner too. Younger one's partner is a chef and he's working every day except Boxing Day so his employers are putting him up in a hotel or B&B very close to where he works as he doesn't drive and there's no public transport on 25th or 26th. 2017 hasn't been a great year for me, OTOH it wasn't bad. However I still hope that next year will be better than this one. Merry Christmas to all !

My mother is coming over tomorrow and I am taking her home on Wednesday morning, with my brother and his family joining us all on Boxing Day. Herself's sister and family are joining us for a couple of days over New Year. The local butcher and greengrocer open at 6:30 in the morning, so I shall be first in queue, then off into town to the supermarket for a few odds and sods while (hopefully) the rest of Stratford-upon-Avon is still in bed. Sea bass with a lemon butter on Christmas Eve, my own home-made three bird roast on Christmas day and a big selection of cold meats, pork and game pies and other yumtiousness on Boxing Day. I have already looked out a few thirst quenchers, too...

Yep Merry Christmas to all.
We are having a relatively quiet one this year; just myself, Tina and the youngest for lunch and in the evening the eldest is over with her boyfriend and grandson and a friend and her son.
Boxing day we are going to my sisters, she wants us there all day, it won't he happening as I'm back to work on the 27th, I want a relaxing morning, plus her house is very stressful!
Will be going up to the Cathedral tomorrow to remember my dad; 3 years ago tomorrow that he died, where does the time go.

Packing up 30 years worth of stuff is time-consuming and exhausting.

Christmas on 24th in the UK; fly off to Vienna on 25th; back on NYE. Are you staying in Vienna or passing through ? I was in Vienna a few weeks ago for the Xmarse markets and general site seeing. All in all, bit of a strange place, but the food was lovely. I had a horseradish soup with black pudding that was off the chart awesome. I am a sucker for pukka Apfel Strudle as well. Pass through this year. Last couple of years we’ve stayed a couple of days in Vienna or Bratislava but not this time. I love Vienna because like you (it appears from your menu hints) I like their simple but tasty gut filling food. Apart from Sachstorte: never worked out what all the fuss was about.

Merry Christmas to you all. I hope you have a restful and safe Christmas holiday. We are having a family gathering at my parents' house in Norfolk and back to work on 28th for a few days prior to (hopefully, as it's taken bloody ages so far) a move to our new house on 4th Jan.
Cheers, fellas!

May i wish one and all and their families a very Merry and Happy Christmas.
It's a pleasure being on here and thank you for your advice during the year.
I have exchanged Christmas cards with my friend Ian (Boxer6) and wish you all safe journeys and hope Santa brings you something special
Me, I'm spending Christmas lunch at home with Julie and Isabel and then visiting sis-in-law and in-laws later in the afternoon before going on to my parents for evening tea. Due to personal health issues I won't be drinking much but I will have one or two Guinness so Mrs Nelson will be driving (I don't drive on even one alcoholic drink) and I'll drive tomorrow to allow her to have a fruity cider when we visit her Mum's.
Happy Christmas to all

Packing up 30 years worth of stuff is time-consuming and exhausting. You mean your parents aren't "keeping" your room for you for when you come back? Both my daughters still have plenty of their stuff back at our place, wouldn't dream of telling them that they have to move everything out

Both my daughters still have plenty of their stuff back at our place, wouldn't dream of telling them that they have to move everything out Some of my stuff will still be around, but they intend to rent my room out. I don't know when I'll be 'back' anyway so probably a good idea.

Packing up 30 years worth of stuff is time-consuming and exhausting. You mean your parents aren't "keeping" your room for you for when you come back? Both my daughters still have plenty of their stuff back at our place, wouldn't dream of telling them that they have to move everything out This is very 1st world problem. My dad downsized in 2000 so much of my stuff in what was the family home was dealt with then. Staying with W2.0’s parents and each sister, all in their 40s and with large homes of their own, have their own bedroom and remnants of their youth stored therein. This issue is often retold when I’m advised our house is only full because it’s got all my stuff in it. True but I don’t have another house full of my stuff as I grew up with my dad thus mother’s home and holiday home have nothing of mine in them. There will be some humongous bonfire of vanities when parents pass away. I was lucky with dad: he decluttered when he downsized but my Mum and late step dad never have and W2.0s family home was built by their dad so nothing ever left unless broken. There’s even a moped in the garage from the ‘80s! The other side of the issue is making kids move out. One of my mum’s neighbours in France is from west London and still have a four bed family home there that they won’t sell because their youngest, a thirty-something teacher, hasn’t flown the nest. She lives a right old life I must say, spending the whole summer in the holiday home and partying all weekend. Fuck that: I’d sell the house and buy her a 2-bed flat on the provision that the spare room was ours for time spent in London. Even that, as many would agree, is a bargain for her, but then who’d cook, clean and do the laundry? Good luck Ben, by the way. You’ll be fine: find a cleaner and cheap street food place as a first remit then the rest will follow.
