Off to view and hopefully purchase Mrs M's Captur replacement tomorrow. a Skoda Yeti 1.2 dsg SEL Drive, loaded with lots of toys
Captur is being voluntary terminated back to Renault and a long drive to Bury at Edmunds beckons.

Good luck Bryan. New car road trips are always enjoyable. I hope the Yeti lives up to your expectations when you get to see it.

Pleased to hear you went with petrol, I think that’s a wise move. Enjoy it, they’re great little cars.

I've read about the Yeti but I've not actually seen one on the road.

Enjoy. How come you are sending the Captur back early? It was on Renault's Captur and Release purchase scheme.

The Yeti has been duly purchased (along with a free £40 Yeti teddy to make up for a tiny scratch on the paintwork) and was in amazing condition. It drives really well with enough power to do all that is required and very quiet/smooth with lots of toys. It felt very sure footed on the motorway with allt he bad weather www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711131199017?aggregatedTrim=SE%20L%20Drive&colour=Black&colour=Blue&colour=Grey&postcode=de76hq&transmission=Automatic&model=YETI&advertising-location=at_cars&fuel-type=Petrol&make=SKODA&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&sort=price-asc&radius=1500&page=1Only three points to check out - The headlamp clusters (xenons) seem to have a little condensation in them but it is getting less with use so maybe just because it has been standing at the dealership - The service interval came on today saying a service is due in 600miles - not very good for approved used and I was told it was on 20000mile intervals and not due - so something to get to the bottom of tomorrow - Need to understand implications of changing settings via VCDS to change country ie will it invalidate the warranty - currently the digital speed display is only in KPH but by changing the country to Australia/ROW you can get it to show MPH or KPH - much more useful. You need a really friendly dealer or someone with VCDS link to get to the settings to do that though All in all we are really taken with the little Yeti Trev - the Captur is being Voluntary Terminated ie we are handing it back to Renault 12 months early without penalty because we have paid off half the value of the car. When we tried to switch PCP deal earlier in the year it turns out the car is in negative equity to the tune of £2k (doesn't worry us we out in no deposit), the earliest the VT could happen was this month when half paid off - you can do this without affecting your credit. I figured keeping the Renault for another year was a good way of giving them £3k without any benefit for us or we could put it towards a new car....

Is the kph display there because there are no kph markings on the main speedometer? My V60 is like that and I presume that display is selectable for when you are driving abroad. I presume ROI cars have a kph main speedometer with a mph digital display.

Correct and the mph Speedo is marked up in evens or 20, 40, 60 not great for 30 and 70!!!

The service due reminder may be because of time from when the car was manufactured rather than mileage - my Captur flagged up its first service due date based on that, rather than date of first registration - maybe the dealer forgot to reset the service warning interval when the car was first registered in both cases?

Sounds like a decent deal and the spec is pretty good.
Why were you so desperate to get rid of the Captur? Paying them another £3k for the next 12 months isn’t for nothing, you cover depreciation and have a car for 12 months. Not a supporter of VT, I can see why it could be helpful if your circumstances change, but otherwise you’re not doing/paying what you agreed to. I’m sure I’m in the minority....

With many HP agreements in the past you could hand back the item (usually a vehicle) once 50% plus of the finance had been paid. I did that least twice, with a car and my last bike; they had to be in good condition of course, but that wasn't an issue. I presume the same sort of agreement is in place in this instance. An ex-member of the forum (DarthBalls) had a Yeti for 3 years (trading it in for a MINI) and loved it. I think the only thing that went wrong with it was inflicted by Mrs. Darth! Enjoy Bryan.

I did a VT on my Lexus when I extended the PCP by 6 months to cover starting a new job and going through the probationary period. Lexus Finance themselves suggested it as if I had just returned the car at the end of the PCP deal I would have been liable for £1800 worth of excess mileage charges. By doing a VT you can't be liable for excess mileage charges so it was financially worthwhile.

Yes that is what we are doing - we have paid back 50% of the money due and are handing back in good condition with lower miles. Views will differ on VT but it clearly states in the agreement that it is an option to pursue, so I don't think we are breaking any form of agreement with Renault.
Being in a position to buy the Yeti means that £3k we would have spent will go towards an asset rather than funding a liability we have not fiscal interest in.....of course if we weren't able to VT we would have kept it for the terms of the agreement. The lease companies are also very sharp on return damage charges so it will be swings and roundabouts

Oh and primacy reason for change is Mrs M commutes 15 miles each way around Nottingham ringroad in rush hour and wanted an automatic after driving the Merc

Have got to the bottom of servicing issue - the car was registered as variable 2yr/20k service intervals but changed by the dealer in November to annual 10k/20k intervals...this is what is triggering the current service demand on board.
Their solution is to change it back to 20k variable intervals and reset the indicator...problem goes away for another 12 months but I'm not sure I am comfortable with an engine going unserviced for 20k (especially a car we own rather than lease and hopefully for a long time) You can get a service pack for £279 covering two services
So do I switch to variable and run it for 20k or stick with the fixed 10k/20k regime - seems bonkers it is a choice especially with all the age related bits tacked on separately eg DSG gear oil at 40k, and major service bits are 'if required' so by the sounds of it the 20k service will only be another oil and filter!

How many miles a year will it do? I wouldn’t want to leave a car 2 Year’s without an oil change / it being checked over, so probably best to stick to 10k, especially at £279 for 2 services.

I have no idea if the 1.2 engine suffers the way the 2.0 TFSi does but I would give it an oil level check every month as a minimum until you get an idea if it is using any. As my own car, I would want the oil changed every year as well.

Is the servicing deal available via all Skoda dealers? Any time limit after purchase? Hope you are enjoying the Yeti.

The servicing deal is not at all dealers despite being on Skioda's website (Vindis/Bristol St Skoda Derby only do their own pay £20/month service plan)
You have to take up the offer within the first year/10k - so I think my plan is get it swapped to long life intervals on the computer at Skoda Derby (plus see if they can code the electronic kph readout to show mph too) and then find a garage which offers the deal on servicing and have an oil change at 10k
Very much enjoying the Yeti - heated windscreen and auto is a big hit
Just got to make the Captur look spot on before it goes back - got some black T cut to help with the minor scratches
