New Defender coming soon but the short wheelbase mule looks a riot as it is:

I am watching developments with interest. I reckon the new Defender will be the real spiritual successor to the Discovery 4 (or Discovery 3 as that was more rugged) and could be a great replacement for our Shogun in a few years.
And to all those people on line (by christ the current Autocar forum posters like a moan) moaning that it being based on the Range Rover underpinnings makes it "not a proper Defender", the Defender was built on a shortened (90) / lengthened (110 / 130) Range Rover Classic chassis - which is why it had proper suspension at the back, was superb off road and could tow 3.5 tonnes with total ease.

I am watching developments with interest. Me too. My concern is that the talk of 'premium durability' will translate more into high price tag than high-quality workhorse. Given the not overly successful Discovery styling I'm also worried the looks might not be the best.

That look like one of those GWizz electric cars on steroids. I too am afraid that they try to take it too far upmarket and miss the point of the vehicle in the first place.

The sloping rear will do it no favours. I am still watching to see what exactly gets revealed.

It is a cut and shut Range Rover Sport body so the rear windscreen angle isn't indicative of what will be. I can't imagine it being anything other than near vertical at the back.

I've seen this across a few forums and loads of people have expended time and energy slagging off the styling - no matter how many times they are told it's a mule and bears no relation to how the final vehicle will look.

In fairness to those people Land Rover models to tend to look very similar so you can see why they'd think this is the final car.

You'd think the whole thing would be a give away! As John says it looks like a G-Wizz on steriods. Bet it's amazing off road, though.

It does look like fun on the right terrain and all.
