I suspect rust underneath will be the killer for those.

I drove a manual one of these (same generation, same colour) last year in Nairobi. It does feel quite ancient inside and the driving experience is distinctly agricultural.

I did the MOT search thing on a few of them and they have all failed at some point on rust issues.
I'll just have to hope we don't get snow!!

So how do you do that?

Fascinating stuff! My old 520d had done 142k miles at the end of May, so has only covered 9k miles in just over 2.5 years. It passed, but needed (quite desperately) 4 new tyres.

I find that website quite interesting. It's useful at work, too.

My old 335D has racked up 43,000 miles in 3 years but has passed all its MOT's. It's obviously being enjoyed.

Very useful site, I've been wasting time looking at old M3's (not seriously looking) and some of the supposed minters that people are asking big money for, when you look at the history, the MOT's are all over the place, failures on rust etc. A good source of avoiding a lemon for sure.

It's kind of sad though, looking up past steeds.
Most of mine (including the M135i) seem to either have left no trace (whether through change of plate or otherwise) or to have failed MoTs at some point. Of the ones I can trace past 2010:
The 1991 green Z1 is currently on 128k kms and MoT'd. The 1992 Saab 9000 made it to 165k before failing an MoT in July 2011, after which no trace. The 2001 A3 quattro failed its MoT in 2015 with 96k on the clock. The 2002 S3 had been going strong at 149k when last MoT'd in August 2016, but it was not MoT'd in 2017. The 2005 GTA is in storage and has 53k on the clock. The 2007 M5 was on a whisker under 60k when MoT'd last month. The 2008 330d Touring is currently on 98k and MoT'd.

Just looked up a few of my old cars on this and unsurprisingly the Puntos seemed to have gone to the scrap yard with excessive corrosion. It's a great shame as I'd have loved the Sporting back. The Compact is still going as is the Alpina although that has had a huge list of faults from snapped springs to exhausts problems. It also failed for an incorrectly spaced set of registration plates which is odd given it wasn't on a private plate.
