Just looked up the price of Macau Blue as an option on an M3....£3,950! Does it have ground up diamonds in it?
I have to say I have been back to look at the car a few times!
You’re welcome!

Nice cars but the jury is out on the Quartz colour for me too. I saw one in the sun a few months back and thought it looked great but I saw the same car dirty and it looked very grey.
I think at the price of those two though I would be looking at a new car discounted exactly as I want it with the manufacturers lower interest rate. Speccing a 440i GC or coupe as I want it brings the price in around £42,500.....but then I think of that M3 Martin put up and a quick raid on the ISA would see something which feels much more special, on the driveway.
I'm going to put my work head down and ignore all these demons on my shoulder!

If the white merino is the colour of a ‘tarts handbag’, does that make the seats in the convertible the ‘tarts fake tan’?!

A lot of 3 series models I see have leather seats that looks 'baggy', the rears in that one being a case in point. It looks like the fitting needs to be a bit more snug.

Grassicks in Perth had a Quartz M4 in the showroom during the summer and it looked amazing. However I now regularly see a Quartz M3 and on a dull day it's a bit of a flat colour. (Not to mention that the driver is a bit too young for that kind of car and has a thick neck!).

I'm puzzled, because I didn't think you were won over my the M4 test drive as a daily driver prospect. You're right Twelfth because I am puzzled too.
To quote myself from above:
"I like the 4GC shape too and for everyday use the ZF box will be so much better than the box in the M3/M4. I think I am suffering from Tax Return fever because I know I wasn't blown away when I drove one but I still want it - it's like I have been hypnotised!"
I have an irrational want and I either need to scratch it or leave it and hope it goes away.

I suspect that the next one might be 4wd - wouldn't that address most of the weaknesses?

I suspect that the next one might be 4wd - wouldn't that address most of the weaknesses? Yes it would, for me at least.
I was very happy this morning as I trundled up our sheet ice street and rounded some slushy corners with no problems at all and I have become rather used to the rocket launch effect out of damp corners and roundabouts which RWD just couldn't look at.

Sounds like you ought at least to test drive an RS5 too? I know it's not perfect, but it might be closer to the best of both worlds.

The RS5 doesn't really do a great deal for me and it is about £10K more expensive if similarly specced. In fact in comparison to the M3 that Martin put up, a similar RS5 would be £20K more and that's into fantasy land for me.

Not sure black does it any favours.

No and the light bits of trim on the RS7 look dreadful.
I’d much rather have an M6 GC.

True, but easily solved with seasonally suitable tyres......

RS7's don't really do much for me either. I have the feeling I will stick with what I have for a while and if I can hold out for another year, I will just wait for the next 3/4 series to come out. If I see a nice M4 in the meantime I might give in!

There's something wrong with the 2nd one anyway - it doesn't have the spoiler raised in the permanent way that every other A7/RS7 does.
