Have you ever seen, whilst out on the roads, a number plate with just one or two characters different to your own? I passed a 60 plate S60 on the motorway 2 days ago that had only the middle letter of the last three letters different to my own plate. I wondered if the driver of that car noticed the similarity as well. Several years ago I followed for several miles a silver Toyota Yaris, identical to the very one that I owned and was driving at the time, with only one letter of the last 3 letters different to my own plate. That was also the middle letter of the three.
At least I've not seen my own plate on another car yet.

I pass another 93 estate regularly with KR08 EKW, which is only one letter away from my original plate.

I used to own a black XR2 with the number GGB 466X. A while after I bought mine, another one appeared in the area with the number GGA 466X and he drove like a complete prick everywhere about town. I was pulled over once because they thought I was him so the car got sold shortly afterwards.

One of my cousins has the better version of my number plate (she has "1", which makes it an exact match for our shared surname, whereas I have "11") and lives not far away in Chelsea. So occasionally friends or acquaintances ask why I have swapped my BMW for a Skoda Yeti...

I remember a call at work a few years back where someone phoned in saying they were following another car with their registration number. I don't recall what the outcome was.

When I bought my plate from the DVLA it was the 1st May 2001. I waited and waited and waited and when I finally got through at about 1200hrs after being on the phone since 0800hrs the two plates I wanted (Y1 BMW and Y5 BMW) were both gone, unsurprisingly. I got Y55 so not too unhappy but I've never seen Y5 or Y1.

The plate I bought for my daughter (used on my other cars when I had them before she eventually passed her test and bought a car of her own) is letter ~ 2 digits ~ three letters. For the past few months I've noticed a plate where the first letter of the three last ones is all the difference there is - 'T' instead of 'R' - said plate being on a red Golf; somewhat ironically I feel!

My sister's first car was a silver Toyota Yaris that she got on Y-reg day - Y207 PAJ. She sold it about ten years ago, only a few weeks ago I noticed Y208 lives locally which is also a silver Yaris.

There is also a Mondeo Zetec S nearby, same shape as the Flying Postbox was, but a V6 hatch with a near identical plate. Postbox was (still is) EX52 AXR, other one is EX52 AXM. Makes me think they were press cars, given the Essex registrations.

V8 OAN surely deserves a mention on this thread?

This thread reminded me that I forgot to tax the GC, which is about to hit its first birthday.
Error duly rectified.

My parents had a Moonraker Blue Montego 1.6L with B618VSL and one day (while they still owned it) I saw a Moonraker Blue (albeit a 2.0HL) Montego with B620VSL in the local town.

V8 OAN surely deserves a mention on this thread? If forgotten about that. I think I saw it first, not get from where I live.

^^^ Thankfully I haven't had any more letters!
I haven't actually seen it, though. But I have seen F4 DAN, D8 VAN and H20 DON.

I seem to remember seeing it around the time of the Cheltenham Festival (March).

My silver Honda Civic Shuttle was C925 OPL and in the mid 80's I regularly saw C922 OPL which was identical vehicle and colour. A few years after I bought it, I came across C926 OPL which was on a blue 3-door Accord
My Rover 820 was G380 CBL and I once passed J380 CBL
Younger daughter's old Fiesta was RV05 BYT and not that long ago I passed an AA breakdown VW Transporter RV15 BYT
The Galaxy was X836 RTW and I once followed a Punto that was (something) 836 RTW, can't remember what its first letter was but younger daughter was with me in the car at the time when I remarked upon it. Not long after I found out that the Punto "resided" at a house near the local town centre, but shortly afterwards it was replaced by a brand new car

I don't know them particularly well (think the car actually belongs to the wife of one of my father's first cousins), but yes probably horsey - last time I ran into them was in the Royal Enclosure.

Given that my wife's 500 came from Marylebone Fiat, which is the dealer for central London, we've spotted a couple of other 500s around town over the years which were one digit (the last one) out from hers.
