Part of me wants some decent snow, but I’ve got a return trip to a Swindon on sudnay, so I’d rather it didn’t as traffic will be chaos.

Certainly snowing here in Shropshire today. We had to go out as Mrs PG has a Christmas Gift Fair in Shrewsbury over the weekend so we tried to drive into Shrewsbury to set up in the marquee. We gave up after 2 hours and came home. Crashed or broken down cars, buses and lorries had gridlocked the entire area. Where were all these people going? They really should have all stayed home. Unless they thought - "oh, we can't go to work in this weather, I know, we'll go shopping instead". Three cars were stuck on the hill near our house. The Shogun just sailed up - thank goodness for all wheel drive and winter tyres! This is the main A5 a mile from our house. I don't think the Jag will be going anywhere tonight.....

We had a strong but short lived flurry this morning but that was it. My car is currently running on new Pilot Super Sports all round, which I doubt will get it far if it does snow properly. I've put off sticking the winters on as I need to replace at least one because of pothole damage. Even the Evoque is on Continental summer tyres so wouldn't be impervious to snow!

Man up and drive to the conditions! I may have to on Sunday. I'm supposed to be helping Mrs PG at a Christmas Fair. She and her sister will take the Shogun. I'll join them for a few hours over lunchtime. Based on the weather forecast I've just seen, the snow on it tonight may be just the start......

Sounds to me like you have the perfect excuse to sack off the Christmas fair.

I might have to revise my comments about it not having snowed here for years...
Had to push a stranded C Max when we were out with the girls, and marvelled at the stupidity of many. A Fiesta with pretty much zero traction wouldn't be deterred, and nearly blocked a hill because cars behind her had to stop. Loss of momentum and gradient are a bad combination in this weather!

They’ll blame the authorities for failing to clear the road/ not enough gritters etc.

I’ve never felt I could benefit enough to justify the cost, either Taking that to its logical conclusion I don't need anti lock brakes or airbags as I don't lock my wheels or run into things. Abs and airbags come standard with my car. Winter wheels and tyres I could be looking at £800 or so extra I use my car once a week if I’m lucky so no I don’t think I could justify the cost

Are you saying that if they were options you wouldn't pay for them? If it was the choice of alloy wheels or airbags, which would you choose? What about seat belts?

I ran a Clio with no ABS for 2 or so years . I chose the car . If I was that bothered by it I would’ve bought a 182 and not 172 cup
I had no issues in 2 years and I drove it like you can imagine a 21 year old would drive a sporty Clio
That’s not saying I’m against abs . my car now has it , and so will my next car , as well as esp, airbags, seatbelts but winter tyres are an additional expense that doesn’t come within what i budget on an car

There weren't many visitors by all accounts which was a shame for the traders that made the effort Even the retail park at Meole Brace only had about 20cars there Gone pretty cold here now - about -6 currently

Having gone through most of yesterday without snow it arrived as I needed to get my father to A&E last night. Driving home on about an inch of snow at 1am this morning demonstrated the Volvo's reasonable ability for putting down power in low grip conditions. There's a dusting of snow at home this morning but all the roads are perfectly clear.

I ventured out in the Evoque yesterday and decided to return home the country lane way rather than using the mostly clear main roads. I took the opportunity to engage the Terrain Response 'grass gravel and snow' mode, activate 'low traction launch' and used Hill Descent Control on a slippery downward slope. Probably all completely unnecessary but quite satisfying nonetheless...
As usual there were loads of idiots out there driving around in cars with massive snow 'top hats', ready to slide over the windscreen when they braked.

Took the car out today - roads mostly clear. Does anyone else deliberately trigger ABS on their own street? Ours is a quiet cul de sac and therefore never gets gritted - I like to have a feel for how easy it is to do in case I end up needing it.

I can't help myself when I get home- I like to press on the brakes so that the ABS triggers and then feel myself slowly glide past my driveway.

All boys at heart. I always have a bit of wheelspin going up the road when it snows - still waiting for enough snow to have a play this year.

A friend of mine was a young copper on the beat in Sunderland and one cold snowy morning he rounded a corner to find a hearse, complete with coffin in the back, doing big slow donuts round and round a school playground.

Seconded, better than a sombre bunch of unhappy folk who who I barely know. Friends only which is why I have collected some decent drams for a decent wake and instructions that NO church stuff or people invited. A hangover will be a requirement.

I didn't realise there was still an E46 Compact on The Motor's fleet! Had it for years - it's a great little car for the money - reminds me of my older BMWs much more so than my other E46s and E36s
