Elderly friends of my parents need to replace their aged X-reg Vauxhall Astra with a newer car but one that has a completely flat floor boot from the bumper (i.e no lip down).
Gentleman will soon require a mobility scooter, he is of small frame so one that can fold down is ideal for him, but wife doesn't want the inconvenience of pulling the scooter up and over any boot lip.
Save for a full size estate are there any mid-size hatchbacks suitable?
I'm not sure what their budget is but I guess <£10k
Anything spring to mind?.

It may seem a bit drastic but check out some of the ex motability cars/vans converted for wheelchairs.

Fiat Qubo or one of the derivatives might be worth a look. Dirt cheap and as practical as they come.

Will they get Personal independence payments?
Motabilty will have loads at nil advance and you get insurance and maintenance as well.

I'd have thought that something like a Berlingo etc would be perfect if he's able to have the mobility scooter in the boot whilst walking back round to get into the car, but if he needs it more often perhaps a second hand Brotherwood conversion would be better.

The Qashqai has a flat floor with a storage area underneath. It's also a nice height for sliding stuff in and out.

Thanks for all the replies. I have passed on your thoughts to her. She is going to look at a Corolla Verso but I believe she has been to look at an Astra Estate

Dacia Logan, yes it is an estate, however it has a flat floor, low load lip and a massive boot so enough space for his scooter and anything else he may want to put in there and they can get a brand new one well within budget?
However if they need an auto then they are screwed.

Vauxhall Meriva? I think (from memory of my parents one) that inside the boot there is no lip, i.e. the floor is flat up to the door opening, whereas in most estates there's a drop from the lip onto the boot floor that the scooter would then need to be lifted over to extract it.
