The Nissan was in for its annual service 3 weeks ago and they pointed out the rear brake pads were down to 3mm. Helpfully this was in the video clip they sent me that also had a checklist with tickboxes and prices for the additional work I might like to approve.
So, £190 for some rear brake pads. Didn't fancy the sound of that so decide I'd do it myself, plus I was off on Friday and had plenty of time.
Standard pads from EBC for £20 and 2 hours of my time later (it would've been half that if I'd actually researched what to do - who puts an s-shaped circlip on the pins that hold the pads in?!) job done. In fact for the second side I did it in 20 minutes from placing the jack to removing it and I reckon I spent nearly 10 minutes cleaning the calipers and the bits that came off/went back on.
Work thoroughly checked with a drive to St Andrews on some greasy roads - no wheels fell off and the traction control light got a thorough workout!
An added advantage was that it got me out of going shopping for a birthday present for our soon-to-be-1 year old neice.

Hmmm, now I think I need to use a vat of handcream as my soft accountant hands are feeling rough

Excellent sorting, especially evading the torture session.

I really enjoy doing stuff myself. The savings can be significant.

Well, doing the brakes myself saved me 85% of the cost of 1 replacement tyre for the 320.
Now I want to do the front brakes - those EBC discs in black look appealling plus the slight vibration that has appeared needs to be cured.

The black is a paint that wears off. You need several good hard braking runs to bed them in properly. The rest of the paint stays on and stops the disk bells rusting. I had the, on the Legacy and they were good, if a little noisy.

Noisy really isn't a concern in the Nissan
