I read something in Focus a while back about batteries using sodium, I think it was. Being developed by the people who did lithium ion.

I reckon that we have only scratched the surface of what batteries can do or how they can be made. The research into the use of capacitors and finding a way of preventing immediate discharge is starting to get results and I am sure there are many other parallel research projects under way. Where there's a will there is a way and the answer (or at least the start of it) for cars with long range + performance can't be that far away.

Sorry but I misread the word sodium as soddium. Government vehicles only?

There are various new battery technologies on the way but they're kind-of secret for now. There is something better than lithium-ion, so I have been told by one of our key suppliers at work, but it's not too well proven yet and we may have to wait a few years until it's public knowledge

Anything that does not rely on exotic metals will be a good start.
