Finally managed a bit of free time, yesterday, to get out on some decent roads in the T6, so I took a drive down into the Cotswolds. The aim was to drive a couple of the roads Harry Metcalf uses in the Harry's Garage videos on YouTube, as they look like great little routes. I was a little limited on time due to having to do the afternoon school run and being an hour from home but, nonetheless, I managed some spirited driving on a couple of cracking roads. The A361 from Chipping Norton to Burford is great - fast, open sections, good for overtaking and some nice, sweeping bends. Stunning views over the countryside, too and it helped that the weather was crisp and bright. A quick stop for coffee in Burford and then back up the A361, turning off on to the B4437 towards Charlbury. Now that road is a corker! Some fast straights broken up with tight bends, crests, rises and falls. I turned round at Charlbury and did it again, the other way, back to the A361.
This was the first time since I bought the car that I had really pushed it properly along a decent road. Any other opportunities to do so had been limited to very short bouts on the way somewhere else but yesterday was just driving for the fun of it. The mid range shove still surprises me and the speed it can pull off muti car overtakes and gradually work along a line of traffic is impressive. It is indecently quick for a sensible family estate car. I didn't find the auto an issue, either, using the manual mode to make sure I was in the right gear but paddles on the steering wheel (as on later cars) would have been nice to have. And, when stretched, the T6 sounds rather naughty indeed.
The roads were not that busy through a midweek late morning and early afternoon, meaning it was easy to "make progress". Sadly there was hardly anything of automotive interest. A Lotus Evora 410 (I think, brief glimpse only) and a "classic" Range Rover (not Metcalf's).
