My wife announced at the weekend that she was feeling the need to change her car!
She likes the look of the X4 and X6. Do I book her an eye test, arrange for her mental state to be assessed or just hope it goes away?

Steer her helpfully towards a Macan or an F- Pace.
Or a solicitor

You have my sympathies John, I hope she starts to feel better soon.

Just tell her that drug dealers, pimps and women of dubious moral standards tend to drive them. Then suggest an alternative. If she likes her Audi currently, what woud wrong with a Q3 or Q5?

Where do I start? Quite like an RSQ3 or an SQ5 though. Q7 can be leased for a couple of grand down and £550 ish a month.

Shovel. Sack. Deep Hole. Dark Forest. That's an awful lot of X6's to bury though.

Budget is the issue with the Macan or F-Pace but she does like the Q5 so I might see what I can find to tempt her.
The only Audi problem is the local dealer - even my wife thinks they are sh1t and she wouldn't trust them an inch so her desire to buy another Audi is not as strong as it might otherwise be.

For variety, you know. What about an E-Pace? She might not be aware of them and they look woman-friendly to me.

The X4 is a bit meh....but I like the X6
Am I right in assuming the X6 is the only BMW series currently without a 4 cylinder option ?

Tell her that from the front 3/4 the X4 looks like it's got a fat arse and a muffin top, that might put her off a bit. Is it also worth pointing out that X6 owners tend to be thick of neck and tattooed?

The X6 is very difficult to see out the back of. I don't know if that's true or not because I made it up but it sounds compelling and I think you need to start be sowing the seeds of doubt early. Then mention it doesn't have a rear wiper.

It could be worse - at least she does not want a BMW 5GT. I'd say that any budget is worthwhile to go F-Pace of Macan rather than X4 / X6. You're an accountant - be creative! If she really wants an X4 / X6 then try and talk her into an X3 / X5 instead. Marginally less ugly. If all that fails, just grow a thick skin.

Or the X2? It looks marginally less hateful.

X cars, ouch, painful and look to be aimed at short sighted footballists and their families. F-pace is at least slightly interesting/tasteful while being somewhat different. I think the dark forest thing may also be too populist.

What about a Stelvio?
Not new obviously, unless on some killer PCP deal.

The X3 M40i is my guilty pleasure. It doesn't look that bad, and has a great-sounding petrol six.

I showed her a picture of an X2 and I got shot down: it looks like an estate car and you know how I hate those! We saw a Stelvio in Marbella recently and she thought that looked more like an estate than a 4x4 and then there's the budget........if I go F Pace or Macan, then I can't do anything about changing mine for a very long time! I don't need to change mine but I would like to keep the door ajar instead of firmly locked shut.
I think the virtually diesel only X6 and X4 might be enough to make her look elsewhere.

Presumably the X4 is about to be discontinued anyway given the X3 has been replaced?

Just got card through the door from Drive the Deal. 9.5% off a Jaguar F-Pace which may be of interest and 27.5% off a C-class that may not.

We went car window shopping at the weekend. The Mother in Law was making a good case for a Mini Cooper S 5 door but a poke around and a sit in the showroom didn't excite much. My wife felt it was a bit cramped whereas her Mum thinks it is perfect. I suppose 5'8" tall v 5'1" might be the difference. I was hopeful because a brand new fully loaded Cooper S Auto 5 door with Lounge leather, Sat Nav, sun roof, HUD, Harman Kardon, adaptive suspension etc etc was £26,500 discounted through Coast2Coast
Next stop was Mercedes to look at the GLC Coupe which she liked. She had a short drive in a GLC (non coupe) in 220CDi guise but wasn't impressed enough with the performance. Adequate she said, quickly followed by adequate won't keep me happy for 3 or 4 years! We then looked at pricing for a 250CDi or even a GLC43 but with extras, the figures just got out of hand.
She then wanted to have a look at BMW just at the stage our daughter had given up the will to live. Guess what she went straight to....an X4.
She is now definite that she wants an X4 but because of the Mercedes 220 test drive, she doesn't want to consider a 2 litre diesel (no petrols available in X4) but wants the 3 litre diesel.
She spent last night searching the BMW website and autotrader for well specced 3 litre X4's and now wants me to look as well and to negotiate. I feel I have a duty to get involved but I really have little inclination!

Like many women she is very particular about what she wants....and that starts with Carbon Black and has a very long list thereafter! It will be a long or expensive search I fear!

Urgh. Have you told here it looks boss-eyed (like all variants of that generation of X3) and is based on the old X3 and is therefore old tech? Perhaps better to wait for the new X4??

Oh dear. Holding off for the new model is a good idea as it will be a decent step up inside and you never know, she might change her mind given some time.
You can’t have a Petrol X4.
