We were in Northern Cyprus for the half term. I loved being in a resort at low occupancy. There were a couple of conferences being held but they all stayed in that bit during the day and the evening entertainment for them was spread across a few other resorts and casinos. We went out for one day to Kyrenia, a historic port on the north coast and hired a Yaris of some sort for a day. Here are two pictures of it. It had a cvt and was quite literally a quantity of “some car”. Horrible drivetrain to the extent that when I gunned it up a hill W2.1 laughed at the screaming engine and that cvt. It worked but was quite thirsty from what I could make out and I can’t begin to recommend one even as a skip. Even more amusing is that they drive on the left with RHD cars in Cyprus so this was a grey import from Japan. Including the satnav which was thus rendered unusable as my Japanese isn’t all that. I managed to point the nav somewhere but, just like Apple and Google, Northern Cyprus wasn’t mapped that well and despite the voice shrieking at me in Japanese the arrow on the screen just pointed into open space on the map. It showed me where the sea was though. Nice day out so you’re better off with a picture of the town than the car. Which was shit. Did I mention that? Of course being a Toyota everything worked perfectly without any fuss so as a means of conveyance it’s one up from a horse and cart.

Better than a horse and cart for sure! Looks OK for a day trip.
Agree with you on CVT, every car I've driven with that type of gearbox has been horrible, from a 1.5 litre Honda up to a Lexus GS.

Why anyone ever signed off a CVT for production, is beyond me....

Why anyone ever signed off a CVT for production, is beyond me.... To be fair, Mrs Sacamano's previous Qashqai had a CVT and, despite my initial misgivings, it worked really well to simulate a proper auto, with gear changes and none of that constant revs as the speed increases. I'd go so far as to say that, unless you were told beforehand, you'd probably think it was a normal auto. I still have my misgivings about longevity though (with no evidence to back them up).
