Last night (well, late afternoon) we took the Boxster up to the local retail park at closing time, in a post long-run glow, for some needless retail.
Up there, with few other cars around, was a Lotus Eletre. A car I was only dimly aware of as life is too short to be reading about electric SUV's. My god, is it huge and hideous. Somehow it seems more of a crime against humanity with Lotus - I don't mind if Ferrari or Porsche want a family car in their lineup, as they sell a lot of great cars also. Lotus, after endless failed rebirths, as a marque who made its name on lightweight, seems to have the least affinity with a huge ugly electric SUV of any OEM I can think of.
There isn't a vomit emoticon big enough to get across how little I liked it... It's like a less sublte and worse-looking Urus. With the best bit - the engine - missing........ What sad times we live in.

I've seen quite a few as they were recently on a £750 PCH deal which isn't bad I suppose. I don't hate them as I guess its the only car likely to save Lotus from extinction. No way I'd spend £100k on one though.

It was green. I managed to work out who in the Starbucks was most likely in it, and he was... Just had a bit of an air of money about him. Though I thought any decent car would struggle to make a £750 a month cost these days (assuming that doesn't need a £20k "desposit" over 24 months or other nonsense).
This from Harry Metcalfe is spot on as ever:

I see an Eletre most mornings and whilst I don't think it very attractive, I don't hate it. However it is HUGE. I came up alongside it at traffic lights a few weeks ago and felt dwarfed.

I don't think I've seen one in the flesh yet.
There now appears to be a sort of generic look to some of these things that to my eyes is based on the Lamborghini Urus. There's a Hyundai or Kia that has a similar look at the front (thin strip lights and pointy beak).

I've seen quite a few around my general area in various colours and agree it's pretty generic in that without the badge it could be pretty much any large 'sporting' SUV from any manufacturer.
I don't hate it but it leaves me cold - and yes, it's huge!
On the other hand, the Emira that drove past my house when I parked the other night is a wonderful looking thing and far more 'Lotus' (though oddly it was a left hand drive on UK plates with a QR code sticker on the side - so perhaps a test mule or something!

The Emira is a thing of beauty.

I don't hate it but it leaves me cold - and yes, it's huge!I've not seen an Eletre. But the first time an Aston DBX passed me in slow M6 trafffic my lasting impression was just how big it was. Same for the Urus. It seems that size in important to the people who buy them. And whilst a Range Rover is undoubtedly now huge as well, it just seems to carry its mass more easily than these sporting SUV wanabees.

The DBX is certainly a chunky thing - but it's (a little) smaller than the Lotus which is actually bigger than the new Range Rover in both length and width!
