As a counter point to the usual pics of shiny polished motors, let’s have some dirty ones as we head into the autumn! It was ever so slightly muddy at Goodwood on Sunday…by which I mean the tracks through the car park looked like liquid slurry half a foot deep…thankfully as a GRRC member we weren’t sent deep into the mire and were parked no more than 100 yds from both the entrance to the event and the entrance to the car park. But what had been a clean car now looks like this - looks worse in the metal than in photos. But this is clean compared to some - saw others that were absolutely coated in muck as well as plenty who were struggling to even move. Some friends turned up in a Z4…I assume they aren’t still there…

In a funny sort of a way I think it probably looks better like that than spotlessly clean.

Did many get stuck? I think the Revival car parks are flat from memory its the FOS parking that turns into a disaster with a bit of rain as the fields are very hilly.

It was a similar story at the LRO Show. Both the caravan and Range Rover were plastered, but the torrential rain on the way home removed the worst of it.

It looks good mucky! I remember one year being in the overflow at Prescott and the field was all churned up the slope to exit the field....I was in the E30 and amazingly had some momentum/traction up the muddy grass slope, swearing like a trooper at those who threatened to bring me to a halt, as I'd never have got going again
Seems to recall someone from here in a blue Clio having some fun in the field

I'd have gone home I think. Having a black car has given me detailing OCD - I regularly wipe it down after rain to prolong it looking clean (I just did) as it gets mucky so fast! You have the car for it, as people have said - an SUV sloshing though mud is in its elements. When its raining I take the silver Porsche, which barely shows any signs of being used in the wet.
When racing the Caterham we had some nasty wet field parking areas that were not flat, and some people got stuck. I was very happy to be in the Passat 4WD then, it pulled the trailer uphill on muddy grass with no issues! RWD and wet grass that is not flat, is not a great combo, though a lot better with winter tyres....

I opened this thread hoping Racing had started a discussion regarding Katie Price's latest spin off from her programme Mucky Mansion.
I remember going to an event at Croft Circuit on a very wet day. Getting off the muddy car park field was a complete nightmare - the FWD Xantia fought its way across to the exit but all the RWD BMWs were completely stuck and a local tractor owner was charging them £5 to tow them out.

An SUV is really only as good as the tyres it’s on, you won’t get all that far in mud on performance summer tyres which would be rather embarrassing. Like my old Q7 driving neighbour who confidently left his drive when it had snowed and only made it half way up the road, then hit the kerb trying to get back down. My RWD winter tyre equipped 5 series estate drove up without so much as the traction light flashing.

Twice this week already I've "had to" wash the lower parts of the car after getting home from work....... Somewhere I have a photo of the Kuga as the only vehicle apart from the wols van i nthe rear carpark of the palce I worked at at that time, in several inches of snow. Nobody else dared to venture into that car park. No probelm driving in, or out at the end of the day (and that was long before I had the Crossclimates fitted)

Twice this week already I've "had to" wash the lower parts of the car after getting home from work....... I feel your pain I keep doing the same as the forecast is dry for the next few days, then (like today, where I was at an event at Stadium MK) It bloody rains hard again and its filthy. I'm giving up on the cheat washes for now I think and need to do a proper one at the weekend! My car OCD is largely WFH related I think. I can see it from the house easily, the sun is directly on it, and if clean it looks magical. If dirty, this is shown up very clearly.... Sp every time I'm up and down the stairs (every 10 mins as that's how often I make some form of hot beverage) I can see it clearly. Today was bloody worth getting it dirty though, I nearly feel dirty myself from how much fun I had posting it through the roundabouts in MK and blasting down the straights, given that I was then part of a team hosting an event on decarbonisation and carbon reporting in transport A couple of EV's thought they were man enough to join in (presumably used to laying waste to most ICE vehicles). They were not.

Talking dirty cars, last winter I discovered one surprise and delight feature on the Disco Sport that I'd never really considered before. The doors all have added trims that go over the sills. That way, when you climb into the inevitably filthy car, you don't get shyte all over your trousers as the sills are clean.

I haven't washed the Kia since I bought it and the inside is atrocious as I took 5 loads of tree cuttings to the dump. There's about an inch think layer of dead leaves inside (so at least if I set fire to it it'll burn well ).

I think all LRs are like that (or the door goes over the sill) and I agree, it’s a great feature in the winter, even more so on a car you step up into.

The hearse hasn’t been washed in weeks but still looks undirty… Is it the angle which makes the wheels look tiny or are they 15"? Impressively undirty though!

I finally had the Macan washed yesterday. The car wash guys seemed oddly pleased to have a properly dirty car to clean for once and did a very thorough job.
I then washed the 500 myself, largely because the spider infestation in the wingmirrors had got to the stage where the car looked like it was being decked out for Halloween, plus the foxes had walked all over it leaving their usual muddy pawprints.
Angled the mirror glasses as much as I could in each direction, and gave them a series of good blasts (to the point of worrying I might fritz the electrics) both unfolded and folded from underneath, and a startling amount of gunk came out of both mirror housings, but not any bedraggled spiders that I actually noticed.
This morning there were no cobwebs as yet and the mirrors still work, so fingers crossed that they have been de-spidered for the time being.
The Macan doesn't seem to suffer the same way, probably because it is kept covered.

Walking towards mine the other day, I thought the wheels looked awfully small for the arches. They are 19's and fill the arches - no idea what I was thinking!!
