Aka,The Flying Blackcurrant, as it will be known when it is complete. PAHOOT is an acronym for: Princess Anne Had One Of Those. Had a nightmare getting it on the trailer because the winding handle for winch has gone missing, so I had to improvise and turn it with a 10mm spanner. It's now safely back at the workshop, ready to go into my container. Weirdly, on the way back from collecting it, I ran into a guy at the petrol station who did all the welding on the chassis. Small world.

Epic bonnet length!!!

I've just had the bonnet up and had a look inside properly. The engine is completely behind the front axle, with another engine length's space in front of it.

So what needs to happen to get it roadworthy? Or whats the first thing on the list. It'll be stunning when all done.

First thing will be to get it on the ramp to establish if any more welding needs to be done. Then I can start rummaging through the mass of parts in the back to decide what is worthy and what isn't. It definitely needs new tyres, brakes are in pieces inside the car. It looks to have had new plugs, leads and distributor, which tallies up with it being started last weekend.
I've set a target of 2029 to have it absolutely spot on, including any mods/upgrades, as that will be the year my youngest leaves high school and will want taking to her prom in something fancy. For the time being, I'm taking my time with it and not setting any targets.

What's the plan? Concours/ classic restoration, or rat look / restomod look?

Light to medium restomod.
* I'm hoping to go for a more modern colour - still purple - something like Jaguar Caviar or Audi Merlin, with all chrome parts blacked out. * Underpinnings will, ultimately, be fully updated, but for the time being I will keep the Essex V6 (Updated with electronic ignition, better cooling fan, etc) and fit a modern 5 speed gearbox, likely from an MX5 for cost purposes and the awesome rifle-bolt gearchange. Suspension will need a refresh, as will the brakes. Maybe even a rear disc conversion because I hate working on drums. * Interior looks to be in really great nick, so I will probably keep that as is, apart from the wooden rimmed wheel, which is wobbly and knackered. Might try to find some more modern seats (with headrests) that fit the bill, but finding dark tan vinyl/leather will be an issue. * Lights are Lucas sealed beam units up front so they will be getting unceremoniously binned for bang up to date LED units. Rears may go the same way if I can find some one piece units the same size. I will probably have to replace or recomission chunks of the wiring loom, but this is unkown until I start plugging stuff back in. * Wheels will likely be replaced. I have a friend with a Datsun 260Z which has the same bolt pattern and PCD, and he has a set of Minilite replicas for sale which will look epic. This is probably cheaper than trying to find tyres in 185SR14 (which is a van tyre pretty much).
Mainly, I want it mechanically sound so it can be MOTd, and then registered as historic. The future is likely to include a Jaguar V6/V8 and a more beefy manual box.

Power steering is also on the cards, probably using a modern electrical column from a Corsa.

You're a better man than me - seeing those pictures has given me a panic attack Me too...and that was before I saw the underside!! I wouldn't know where to start...although that's actually not true, the first thing I would do is send it to someone who knows what they're doing. The front seats look in really decent shape from what I can see. The ride height is interesting, maybe it's the Dakar version!

What year was it originally registered? 1974, so it should qualify for no MOT/tax and it means I can legally fit black/silver plates. Which I may or may not have already purchased...

Thankfully it should be easy to fit adjustable coilover shocks to remedy it. I'm not put off by the rust underneath. Most of it looks superficial and should just need treating/coating. This could all change once I get it up in the air and have a proper look, but I'm unusually optimistic about the condition. I paid barely anything for it in the grand scheme of things, so even if it turns out to be mostly Swiss cheese, I can break it and sell the bits for profit.

Are you doing a body off chassis restoration ? If so, are you taking the opportunity to do any strengthening (in anticipation of running a stiffer set up and future proofing for more power) ?

Bang on the money. May as well throw a few gussets in there. Will give me a chance to hone my welding skills.

Sounds like a cracking project.
TVR managed to make the Essex v6 sound epic, maybe some of that Blackpool drain pipery can find its way under the Scimitar.
Although more power always sounds tempting, I think moderate horsepower with a soul stirring soundtrack has its own appeal.

It definitely needs larger exhausts, they're a bit pea-shootery.

Great video. Like me, you refuse to call the rusty outer coating "a bit of ginger" as used on site when rebar arrives. Bloody abuse that is!

I find it very amusing that all these years after HRH must have ceased driving her Scimitar, so many people still remember and make the association.... What are the chances of getting the plate PAH100T or PAH10T ??

Video goes a bit sideways in places, but I've pretty much emptied the car out now. Next step is to get it on the ramp.
