Driving my daughter over to Crawley yesterday morning for church I had the misfortune of getting a puncture on the rear left of the Octavia. With the size of the battery there's no space in the boot for a spare even if I wanted one so I'm back to being reliant on the bottle of gunk or, more likely, a recovery truck. Luckily as the tyre wasn't shredded and appeared to just be a small hole I thought the former option was worth a go.
It was whilst reading the instructions on the bottle that a VW Transporter pulled in ahead of me in the lay-by and the driver got out and asked if I needed a tyre repair. He had a proper repair kit in the back with rubber strips and petrol powered compressor. I'd not even been at the side of the road for 10mins when the tyre was fully inflated and I was back on the road. The Transporter driver wanted nothing for his help and I didn't even catch his name before he hopped back in and went on his way.
Given the likely uselessness of the tyre repair kit supplied with the car and the typical waiting time for recovery on Sunday mornings I suspect he saved me a good few hours of standing by the side of the road in the blazing sun. It's great to know there are still good samaritans out there and I'll definitely do my best to pay it forward when I can.

That's fantastic. Mind you he was in a VW Transporter. Maybe he saw your daughter standing by the car first and thought he'd indulge in a little kidnapping only to spot you after he'd stopped and then going through the whole 'Good Samaritan' charade

Thats amazing - shame we don't know the name of the tyre company to give them credit!
When I had the day of breakdowns in the Alfa, half a dozen people slowed and wound down their windows to either laugh or swear at me (apparantly some people though I had parked like that intentionally). Perhaps I need a sort of cardboard cut out like those ones petrol stations use of policeman, but of a young hot woman looking worried...........

Sometimes one's faith in human nature is restored. Sadly, usually only for a temporary period.
