It seems that the internet is awash with people saying that Trump arranged to be shot in the ear to boost his poll ratings. Or that he was not shot at all, it was fake blood etc etc. It must be a fake - if he was that close to a 5.56mm round from an AR-15 the shock wave would have blown his head off etc etc. So this YouTube video is good viewing for those who might want to help people believe that, yes, somebody did actually try and shoot him, they did hit him in the ear and he lived.

With all the info emerging about how a sniper had been seen and reported to the authorities an hour or more before the first shot was fired, I do wonder if the Secret Service wanted him dead so deliberately took no action until after the gunman had started shooting

How does it benefit the secret service if he gets taken down on their watch?

I mean, the shot missing, but just enough so he can go round with the ear patch on, Do we think he can keep the plaster on all campaign or will he come out with an ear that looks like Evander Holyfields? You can quite understand the conspiracies on this one. What's he even doing there, its like us having Boris back as leader of the opposition!!

You can quite understand the conspiracies on this one. What's he even doing there, its like us having Boris back as leader of the opposition!! Now he's picked a running mate - that specific running mate - I think its clear what he's doing there. He can draw people in like the Pied Piper, he's willing to say anything at all as long as it makes him look good (in his own mind) or generates some cashflow and a lot of the background funders of the Republicans are using those characteristics to get what they want. These are, for example, billionaires who are also Evangelical Christians and follow through on their Christian principles just so long as everyone is like them! Things like no abortion under any circumstances - even rape or incest! His pick for VP has some weird family history and is totally opposed to divorce, for example, but is happy to be VP to a guy who is on wife 3 and was guilty of shagging a porn star while his wife was pregnant. Hardly the same approach to life as the VP but I suspect they're holding their collective noses, going with Trump in the hope he gets elected and then they'll change as much as they need to in order to get what they want. I'm not sure if that sounds like a conspiracy theory but there is a massive disconnect between Trumps lifelong actions as a human being and the words that members of his political party have used over the years. TBH I wouldn't be surprised that IF he gets elected he very shortly comes to some point where he has to hand over to his VP, whether that be prosecution, another scandal or death.

The world is awash with conpiracy theories, isn't it? This was 100% a botched assasination attempt in my book. I couldn't work out at first why he put his hand to his ear like that, with that shocked look - no one is that good an actor, even actual actors not fradulent businessmen. You've got the shot people in the crowd, all sorts of video footage from all angles, available very quickly, etc etc. It does help Trump's campaign, that's an unintended consequence.
What it is, is a massive security failing, but in the words of the IRA, "you have to be lucky every time, we only need to be lucky once". Easy enough to poke criticism, but the local police department guys who were "policing" the outer area, totally messed it up. The roof is an obvious viewpoint, and worst of all people saw the shooter, reported it well before shots were fired, and the police did not immediately radio in to delay Trump going on stage. Standard US Police forces seem to be completely useless.
This has become a bizarre campaign, as awash with twists and turns as the UK one was boringly predictable. So much hangs over Trump, himself no spring chicken, that perhaps this is the battle of the two prospective VP's - neither of whom is especially well known or popular, both of whom have legal training, and both of whom came from poor single parent backgrounds with a tough back story. Unusual.
PS I'm aware of the chap in the video, I already follow his stuff (and "Garand Thumb" who does more, and better) - while I'm conflicted about it and certainly don't like US gun laws, I do like shooting, and guns, and used to do a lot of it - along with the race car driving they're the only two sports I was genuinely, naturally good at.

Agreed this was a genuine assassination attempt.
The conspiracy theory stuff is just the aftermath. Social media has a LOT to answer for IMO.
US police forces appear to be totally amateur. I know the police chiefs have to go up for re-election periodically rather than being an appointment. Does a new police chief have a clearout of the rank and file? I think I'm right in saying that they're locally funded, i.e. city (in American parlance) by city rather than centrally like ours.
So much about the USA seems very oddly set up to my eyes.

I think city and state police chiefs are appointed - the Commissioner may be an elected or an appointed role. Funded via city or state funds as appropriate.
County Sheriff is an elected role and he appoints/inherits his/her deputies as far as I am aware.

If you wonder this Chris, why do you think they would want him dead? How does it benefit the secret service if he gets taken down on their watch? There's so much bribery and corruption associated with politicians and certain other leaders that you never know what's going on in the background

Trump has quite clearly sided against the Islamists in the Middle Eastern conflict. This automatically means he has sided with Israel and there are enough morons in the USA that dislike the idea of their President siding with Jews. The USA is one fucked up place and the fact that commercially and militarily it has so much sway is pretty concerning.
