The M25 is closed this week-end at the A3 junction. Travelling up the M3 before 9:00am, at least in exchange for miles of 50mph restrictions there is work on more than one of the additional emergency breakdown bays that are being built (unlike the last time I used the M3 heading to/from the M25). Reaching the M25, there was only one junction on it that was open before the M3 intersection, and what a joy to find almost no traffic on the M25, this continued for many miles including going past Heathrow, and for the first time I can remember for years, there was no "temporary" 60mph limit at the M25/M4 junction. Reaching Watford has rarely been easier for me.
Returning home this afternoon, it as asimilar story with people presumably avoiding the western section of the M25 although I did notice when I left it to join the M3 (and 50mph temprary limit for the last couple of miles) the queue of traffic leading up to the last open junction (Chertsey) was back to almost the point where the slipraod to the M3 leads off the M25.
Despite the severely reduced level opf traffic on the M25, the driving was as bad as ever with plenty of people unable to hold an amlost constant speed, plenty of "lane 3 hoggers", some people determined to drive well in excess of the speed limits etc but overall, it was almost a totally enjoyable experience on the M25 today.

How weird - I assumed enough people would fail to know about this, that it would be chaos...
