On our penultimate night of the trip total here in Shieldaig. I have really enjoyed the trip. We've done about 900 miles in the Range Rover at average 20mpg - not all towing.
My observations from the trip are that it is a lot quieter than I was led to believe which is a good thing. Caravan on the single tracks has been fine as well - another thing I was concerned about. Read the road far enough and it isn't an issue. Most drivers are great regarding passing places apart from the Dutch and Belgians who seem to plough past passing places and expect you to vanish to let them past.
Campsites have been mixed.
Dunkeld was lovely by the river.
Inverness was fantastic right on Beauly Firth although a bit "bohemian".
Wick will be nice when it is finished. Portakabin bogs and showers were a disappointment considering the cost and we had no warning of this when booking. Town is a bit of a hole, sadly.
Sango Sands at Durness was the best night's sleep I've ever had listening to the waves crashing on the rocks below. Site itself is over commercialised and they really cram you in but the facilities are decent and the on site pub was OK.
Ardmair Point - decent site but nothing there and when booking in was observed as "oh yes, the caravan" as if that's a major problem not being a motorhome. Pitches were boggy.
Favourite has to be Shieldaig. Nice small, peaceful and friendly site in a quiet village with a cracking local serving delicious seafood. Facilities are spotless too.
Applecross was cloudy so I didn't see the best of views, but what I could see was breathtaking. Road was scary - glad I left the van on site.
Photos when I get a moment.
