If you had to drive one brand of car for the rest of your life, whether the cars are brand new or not, what would it be?
Excluding super/hyper car and high end only manufacturers to make the choices more realistic!

I can’t argue with Ed’s suggestion.
Go back 6-7 years and I would have suggested BMW, but not now as the part of the range I like is reducing all the time.

I kind of saw Porsche as a high-end only brand.
Therefore BMW. But they wouldn’t be new ones save for a BMW Alpina B4 Gran Coupe – if that had been a £70k car rather than a £90k, I probably wouldn’t own a Macan. I’m still not loving the front, but the rest is pretty much ideal.
I’d happily have one of those as a mile muncher, plus a i3S for city use, and a Z1 and an 850CSi as my weekend classics, and a pre-facelift X3 M40i would do just fine if an SUV was needed. And obviously if anyone wished to gift me a 507 I’d be absolutely delighted.

10 years ago I would have said Volkswagen, because a Golf GTI is all I would need.
But now I reckon my answer would be BMW. They have the fun stuff (2 Series/M2), the practical stuff (any of their multitude of SUVs), and the fun practical stuff (if Alpina counts, otherwise an M5 would do just as nicely).

I’d class Porsche as high end . Isn’t their cheapest car £50k , which puts it out of reach to a lot of people
It’s different for the likes of Audi, BMW and Merc as for example you get get a brand new A3 for £28k
I’d probably go VW
Up GTi, Golf R Wagon, ID Buzz

Porsche is a really good call, like others BMW doesn’t do it for me as much as it used to, I’ve never been a Mercedes fan either. Ford is a good call for the variety and Audi. Lexus might be worth a shout as there’s a good selection if you include the cars for sale in other markets and then there’s Toyota- from the Aygo to the Land Cruiser, Supra, Tacoma. I’d nearly be tempted by them too.
But it’s hard to beat Porsche…

Not sure how to answer this question, most brands have changed so much in the last 30 years and will continue to change over the next 30 that it’s impossible to nail one’s colours to a particular mast.
If you asked me that question in 2000, the answer would have been Ford (meat and potatoes) and Jaguar or BMW (avec jus).
Today though – there is nothing that Ford sell in the UK that I would be remotely interested in other than the Focus ST and a V8 Mustang, the only BMW I would entertain the possibility of owning is an M3 saloon or estate and Jaguar is close to having empty cupboards for new stock and Jaguar 2.0 will be radically different. So future used options are going to be thin on the ground.
However – if I had to pick one brand up to this point in my life that I would have happily singularly shopped from, it would have to be Jaguar – for the following reasons:
• Looks • Ride & handling balance • Power with refinement • Interior ambience • V8 • Supercharged V8 • Relatively affordability and accessibility given all of the above.
BMW have had too many mis-steps since they shat the E65 into existence, I’m just not a Merc man and I don’t really care for anything made between 1998 and 2013 and I’m too tight to pay the Porsche party boy tax for the good looking new stuff. Jag have had their issues, but there has always been an XJ that I would give a home and 2011-2015 has always been peak Jag for me.

"Excluding high-end only manufacturers" and we've gone Porsche I think they can be considered fairly high end now a 911 starts at over £100k. I would say BMW on a reflex, still pretty much everything from them I have driven (even the 2 series crossover semi SUV thing - not the MPV) has been satisfying. Ford also focus on driver dynamics, or used to (does Jackie Stuart still sign off the cars?) but they are too mainstream for me now I'm a RWD tart. VAG products I usually am interested to drive then totally bored out of my skin when I do. All of Jaguar's current range I could enjoy for sure, if you keep the 4 pots. I kind of agree with Blarno to an extent - I'd love to try some AMG products (from a few years ago given how they've turned out) and a lot more besides. I love Alfa from an emotional standpoint, I can't even really say why as a reserved English person I love anything Italian that I feel has flair, but I do. But with so few models they would be a huge risk. For me even the 987 Boxster vs Quadrifoglio comparison I have on my drive makes me wonder about the pure mechanical fun element of driving fairly recent/current cars, let alone future ones. I wonder if more and more people will want a second car for nostalgia and pure fun, or if motoring is so expensive that people put up with their EV's alone. The jury is very much out on whether OEM's will want to invest in making EV's truly fun to drive, or just keep adding more FG and hoping we buy it.

I'd be tempted to say Toyota if push came to shove. GR Yaris, GR86, Supra for the fun, and they have plenty of 4x4 and EV options for the practical and green stuff. Manual gearboxes still available on the fun stuff too. Plus they have a fairly interesting back catalogue for the classics. And if you could include Lexus within the brand umbrella...

I don't think there is a brand I could commit to - most have just one or two cars that I like (eg I couldn't own anything VW apart from the Scirocco) - I guess I'd have to say Ford and go shopping with a mindset that says it's OK to pay £30,000+ for an overrated classic
