I have found a new (or renewed) level of loathing for black wheels, triggered by the fact they are such a monumental pain in the tits to clean and have looking respectable.
Silver or grey wheels can be cleaned perfectly with a soft faced wheel brush and I’ve never so much seen a swirl mark or any hazing ever. Gloss black wheels though, even using the plushest of microfibres towels are swirled and hazed to buggery after the first few washes. Then there is the water spotting and the fact that after 5 mins, they collect a fine layer of dust. Today I had to use G3 compound on the worst marks and they still look they have been cleaned by a petulant teenager with impaired motor skills.
Shite !

Yes, it was the same with the Boxster no matter how much care I took. It’s not always possible to avoid black wheels these days, but I would if there was a choice.

I find they water-spot from cleaning, so need drying, but after that they just evenly get black brake dust on a black wheel and sort of go matte. The same happens on the dark grey winter set on the Alfa - personally I think they show the dirty a lot less than silver wheels....
Kerb damage is another matter though - they can look shit, very quickly....

Black wheels - the pursuit of fashion over style. I really don't like black wheels and would always avoid them. But then I said that about privacy glass and have ended up with two vehicles both with rear privacy glass, as finding anything without it seems a forlorn hope.

Not a fan of black wheels myself, but I still don't get the hate for 'privacy' glass! I love it myself, mostly for protection from the sun (limited, I know) for the dog(s), plus it minimises what's miscreants can see when I've got my model planes in the car. Some of them, well, aren't cheap!

Privacy glass doesn't bother me and on some cars such as a 3 series estate, I think it actually improves the look.

I accept it keeps the sun out and hides stuff in the boot, but having traveled in the back of cars with it, it can also make the rear feel dark and gloomy.

As with a lot of things, not all ‘privacy’ glass is the same. Some is true ‘sun protection or ‘solar’ glass and makes a big difference, some is just a tint which helps a bit but clear solar glass would be better.
I had all round solar glass in the Range Rover, including the windscreen which was an optional extra and it was excellent at keeping the heat out.
Dark glass does work on some cars (I don’t like the look of proper Range Rovers without it) but can easily make it look like a van. Difficult to avoid though,

Difficult to avoid though, My L322 is about as drug dealer spec as you can get - extended styling pack and privacy glass - like you say, I gave up looking for one without that wasn't black. I'd have had Matt at High Peak Autos Giveny Green one if I knew it was coming up for sale.

I have always hated black wheels, and whilst I like light grey ones like my current and past two cars have had, they do look pants if kerbed. I've lightly kerbed one of the rear alloys on the Macan and it shows bright silver against the grey alloy and black tyre, and Porsche doesn't do a touch-up stick...
