I've received an invitation from the dealership I bought the family truck from, to attend a sales event. Discounts are back and interest rates are a bit more reasonable plus they are trying to do more to help with insurance costs.
If I attend the event (I won't be) then I would get an Afternoon Tea voucher for 2 at one of two nice local hotels and they've included a voucher for £1,000 which can be used for any new or used car and is on top of any of the current deals.
A sample of the new car offers:
- £150 contribution a month for 3 years towards insurance through JLR Insurance (RR Sport and Full Fat only) - £5,000 deposit contribution and 5.9% APR in a RRS D300 Dynamic SE - £4,000 deposit contribution and 4.9% APR on Evoque - £2,000 deposit contribution and 6.9% APR on Defender

As well as the enhanced deals, there are a series of interesting product actions at 25MY.
Discovery 5 – D300 engine is replaced by the D350 in all variants
Defender – D300 is replaced by the D350 in all variants, and the P400 petrol six in the Defender X is replaced by a detuned supercharged V8 (the P425, which now compliments the actual " Defender V8 " - the P525 unless its a 130 which is the P500).
Looks like my spirit animal has managed to infiltrate product planning.

They are all good moves, especially keeping the V8 going, but I was looking at the weekend and there are other less positive changes. The hybrid Defender now has 300hp, I'm sure it used to have 400hp? They have taken spec out, not sure what it looks like across the whole range but as an example, the FF Autobiography no longer has the Exec Rear seats which have been std fit since 2018 and are now a £2,800 option. Four zone climate is a £1,000 option as well, I'm fairly sure that used to be standard?

I'm sure I read the Defender now has the 1.5phev from the Evoque, hence the 300 not 400bhp 2.0

Will be something to do with euro 6e regulations which have an impact on PHEV c02.
Looks like a detune for the 4 cylinder Defender and the evoque PHEV (now P270e).

Seems the PHEV in the Defender is a 2.0 4 cylinder petrol + battery; in the Evoque / Disco Sport is a 1.5 3 cylinder + battery.
Does seem odd to put the V8 supercharged engine (detuned) into the Defender instead of the Ingenium 6 cylinder petrol. I thought the supercharged V8 engine was as on the way out? Or perhaps there are spare stock now that F-Type production has ceased and this is a way of using them up!

The Defender did have the 6 cyl petrol, but it’s been replaced by the detuned v8 (in UK and Europe).
I presume it wasn’t worthwhile updating the petrol six for EU6e in the Defender (heavier and far less aerodynamic than the RR products) as the V8 appears to be the more profitable and popular product.
As a benefit, more 6 bangers to send to the yanks and go into EU PHEVs
